I was listening to some tunes earlier in the car, using my standard mk4 VW stereo. I cranked the bad boy up REALLY loud, and the speakers didn't distort at all, they were totally crisp, and stupidly loud.
Surely the stock speakers aren't that good?
-
Yeah thay are not that bad are thay! Still upgraded mine tho :afro:

Did you but the 17cm adaptor thing to put standard size speakers in?

did you upgrade just the front and rear, or the tweeters as well? If I upgrade the speakers but leave the normal stereo in, will it still be up to the job?

Ive only done the front at the moment. Yeah that included the tweeters all came as one package for the mk4 golf!
You would need to upgrade the headunit aswell TBH.
HTH :afro:
-
there was an upgrade option - or maybe some previous owner has already swapped them out :)
-
The previous owner was a doctor, I don't think he would have modded the car after he bought it, but it does seem strange. the speakers seem un-naturally good considering they're stock. Also, do GTi's usually come with air-con AND a sunroof?
-
ay there was DSP or something; basically you got a Nokia box of tricks in the boot i believe
-
Well I have the normal VW stereo, and a VW 6 CD changer in the back, and the speakers really seem powerful, the bass is incredible!!
-
mine says "gamma" on it. It adjusts the sound level automatically to compensate for road noise, is this the standard radio. I reckon its quite decent too. Only thing lacking a bit is the proper low end but u need a sub for that. My days of lugging 4 stone worth of ice in the boot are long gone.

yep its the standard one and that function is called Gala :nerd:
-
It's quality, the stereo sounds excellent, and because it looks boring and stock the chances of some pike nicking it are relatively slim :)
-
yh i no there pretty good as my mum ha a mk4 seat ibiza and thing probably have the same ones and hers are great they boom :)
i dont even plan on upgrading mine i think the standard ones should do and it will save me a few dollar lol
-
yeah i'm in the same boat, couldn't beleive the sound quality of the standard setup! they havent been changed at all but i dont know if i have the optional extra stereo you's are talking about!
-
as for actual stereo tht has to gotta make way for tv dvd headunit dunno what im gonna do bout 6 disc changer though

Linz you can pick up another CD changer cheapily enough. Some double DIN headunits come with built in 6 CD changers, others can read mp3's so you can shove TONNES of songs onto one CD :)
-
I was also impressed with mine, when I changed the HU the bass and sound was even better. I need a new head unit now as I have lost (dont ask) then volume knob so to adjust the volume its a right pain in the arse.
I think DVD is the way forward. Just dont have the money :(
-
yeah the standard speakers are quite good, weren't bose the upgrade option?
regarding the air con & sunroof
depends on the year, but sunroof was always an option, but air con was standard on the 1.8T but got changed to climate in 2002 (i think)

any half decent DVD headunit will play mp3 / wma so the changer will be redundant.
don't see the point of a TV / DVD head unit myself as its not like you can watch it whilst you drive
-
Yeah, but display when playing tunes is looks good. Im not going to be able to afford one anyway.
Can any reccomend a half decent HU for £100, at a push a little over.
-
yea the standard setup is really good, especially down in the low frequencies! Had to swap my head unit, with no CD slot up front because having to go in the boot to put a cd on was getting on my nerves!
-
all about the infinity components on ebay, £42 delivered and they are the absolute nuts, I got them in the front!

Are components best to get then?
-
if u dont get components then u wont have the tweaters at head hight, they'll be down at your feet built into the speaker.
-
were the bose speakers the upgarde opyion then coz mine come ith them, previous owner must have done it then, well impressed with mine to and dont even wanna put subs in, just to much weight!!!!! :smug:

For the money mate they are the dogs. I would recommend getting two sets for front and back and a small amp to power them - wont cost you more than £120 and your sounds will be crystal clear ;)
-
kke you have bose ones in yours? What a touch !
-
any way of finding out if i have upgraded speakers without actually taking the doors apart :)

ring your local stealer and or VW UK, give them your chassis number and they should be able to tell you. Either that or look in the front of your service book; should be a label with all the options codes. Have a search as they're listed on a site somewhere

yeah mate, i didnt think anything of it until readig this now i feel quite proud of them!!!!!!
arent they the standard ones then?
-
Bose wasnt standard on the MK4. I didnt even know there was a bose option on the MK4.

i dont' think it was either; there was an upgraded sound system offered but that was with the Nokia DSP box and a couple of extra speakers :undecided:

-
says on the site that grey didnt come in untill 2002 but i have it on a 2000 car, i have the gamma radio cassette with the cd multichanger on top with 8 bose speakers, not that im complaining :afro:
-
You could have as an option upgraded stereo with the bosse speakers on a 2000 golf.
-
There you go, VW to the rescue again. Quite handy having someone on the inside on this forum :D.
