Title: Brake lights
Post by: thehectorman on 26 February 2008, 23:26
Hey all,

My Brake lights only decide to work some of the time so i'm thinkin that a sensor of some sort is on the blink can anyone enlighten me as to what and where it could be?? And is it easily replaced?

Thanks

Think there is a switch behind the brake pedal that could be faulty. There should be some trim that may need to be taken off but you should then be able to follow the brake pedal up until you feel the switch. Can be fiddly lying on your back under to footwell but i'd check this first.

Also check the plugs that connects it to rear cluster. My rear lights went up the creak and it was due to condensation forming and had rusted the PCB and connection plug. Bit of wire wool and it was sorted. Does sound like a switch has gone tho as if this is the case the board just short circuits and you end up looking like you got a christmas tree in your boot when you break, indicate and anything else.

Well wats happening exactly is that when I press the brake pedal the lights work sometimes. Either all three work or none of them do. All other rear lights are working perfectly so I dont think it has anything to do with the connection to the rear clusters. If it is the switch behind the pedal wud it be easiest to get it from the stealers and replace it myself? Is the switch easy to notice? I don't wanna be ripping out the wrong thing!  (Which i'm guessing i'll prob do!)

Problem sorted, went to the stealers got the part for €12 n put it in myself took bout 3 mins i'd say. Once ya take off the plastic tray cover just above the pedals it was there n jus twisted out un hooked the connector n put in the new one. Happy days  Just for a laugh I asked how much dey would charge to do it €150!
