I want to get a black 3 door 16v gti in the summer, aswell as my 8v, then insure the 16v in september when the insurance renewal is here. 16v is 150bhp yeah, what can i do to get it mentally faster. Wasnt there a bolt on supercharger around here at some point? was that for the 16v? I want a mk3 thats FAST. But i dont want the 1.8turbo, as i cant find any, and they seem to costly to maintain.
-
you gonna tell your insurance you bolted a super charger on it....lol
-
If i can find one, yes. lol. I want a super charger or turbo, hence keepin the 8v, 16v be a project kinda. Keep it in my nans garage down the road
just wanted to know if there is any supercharger or turbo kits for it? Or if its a totally custom job?
-
your best checking vwvortex as the yanks like doing things like that!
-
you could use a g60 lump ??

thats on an 8v.
Surely you could bolt a turbo onto a 16v.
-
dunno, bt sum 1 i know had a mk 2 golf with an audi tt engine in frm a scrappy....................................stealth
dnt no wat sort of a job it was thou
-
2.0 16 v turno oh yes -garret on a custom manifold .

How much we talking to do this?
-
you need deep pockets to do it proper -but could be done on a budget using 2nd hand parts , ko3s turbo on a custom mani.aftermarket ecu, engine rebuild including forged pistons rods.
-
Forced induction is never just bolt on unless you're doing a VR as that was designed to be charged in the first place.
Nick
-
New exhaust manifold to sit the turbo onto, which i could maybe get 2nd hand? ECU? could i just get a remap? Or would it be a new ecu? engine rebuild dont sound cheap though!
What power could i get from a turboed 16v, as i want sumfin thats guna fly, or im guna look back at the 1.8turbos.

thats why you uprate pistons and rods ,head bolts, lower c headgasket etc can be done.oil feed needs to be adapted
-
Hmmm maybe i will just buy a mk3 1.8t as it sounds like a lot of work, athough im convinced by this.

2litre turbo!
-
its not that hard to turbo a 16v, only last week on the bay a guy sold a genuine turbo technics manifold for 90 quid!!!!!!!!!!!
20VT for mine
-
Would the manifold made for a VR6 fit the 16v? as there is loads of turbo manifolds for VR6s for sale, but not for 16vs.....
-
no as its a 6 cylinder , 16v is 4 cylinder
-
dang, and a 16v manifold that can have a turbo is rare im thinking.
-
dunno sure theirs a kit for it, i have seen a website somewhere fior a company who does it
-
I had a quick google, couldnt see much? So is the 8v and 16v manifolds the same? As they are both 4 clyinder right?
-
the head on the 16v is different, si the manifold will be i would think
im sure i have seen a website u know, jus gotta remember where, why dont u bung a turbo on your 8v

Dont want to ruin it...... LOL...... Athough i want turbo. I dunno, i suppose i want the better 16v base before i get a turbo boost.

£330 for the mainfold plus postage from america, then they want $3000 for the turbo kit and intercooler......
Might get the manifold from there
and then try and wangle a cheaper turbo kit :/
-
Is this for the 8v? and it has it all except the manifold right?

Its going to be big money having the engine out to do a low compression rebuild, We are talking diffrent pistons, diffrent rods, stronger oil pump, you need to fit the oil feed and return to the turbo, stronger head gasket... Then your ECU and engine management system needs changing or remaping.
The average engine build we do is £2000+ And we have a fair few people have done at home which have run the first 100 mile and either blown to pieces or rattling like crazy! its a big job and without all the tools you need they tend to skip important parts of the rebuild.
Realisticly the only way you will get a good turbocharged engine which you can live with and not constantly have to worry about blowing, is dropping somthing like a 1.8T lump or having it all professionaly built up.
Our garage would do it for arround £5000 for a good turbo kit and arround the same for a supercharger, mabey a little less. engine conversions arnt all that much cheeper but always a much better option.
Hope that helps.

Yeah, im weighing up the two, 1.8t or turboing a 16v. Either way it costs $$$$ SO its a hard choice, depends on the final outcome. The other option is of course a mk4 1.8 turbo
-
yeah i thought about a mk 4 turbo, my dad has a black one, awesome car tbh, i just love my oldskool yet nuskool lookin mk 3

Yeah, i would love a mk3 turbo, but mk4 seems the easier option...... hmmm choices are hard!

How about a mk3 vr6 then bolting a turbo on it.
Insurance for a young driver might be hefty though.
Just an idea.
As said previously, there's always g60's. How about a Corrado?

VR6 would kil my insurance, mk4 turbo is the same price as my 8v atm, 16v would be pushin the boundrys.....
Want to keep a golf.
Maybe i will just keep the 8v and save money on renewal insurance etc.
Hmmmmm but i want a turbo!

Every one wants a turbo, be happy with what ya got for now! you got a powerfull car as it is, Wait untill your 21 or something then it will be all the more fun because you waited :D
