I want to paint the original steel wheels on my golf mk2 1.6 because of some rust and faded paint. What do i need? as far as im aware, i need sanding paper for the rust, primer and then the paint. But if the paint isnt protected by somethinbg stone chips will easily get my paint off. what do i need after the paint??

You won't be able to protect your wheels from stone chips, but if the paint quality/technique used is good enough it should be a very durable finish. I think the best you can do is use jetseal on the wheels after they've been refurbed, which is a hardcore sealant (a bit like a wax).

you could also used a metal polish with a wax in it for protection like Belgom Alu
can vouch for it!

yh ok, i might do that. Im gonna spray paint thm either black or silver. (my car is white) I think black would jsut look like a spare tyre, and silver would look kinda the same but without the rust patches. what do you guys think?
