Hey guys. It's time to fill up on new oil. I have no idea what oil the car is currently using, but i want to put some fully synthetic oil in, castrol preferably. (sounds the part) Is it ok to mix fully synthetic oil with a different oil? or if not, what oil would you recomend for my 1.6 driver (carb) 1989. Im looking for something which will add performance (i heard a decent oil adds up to 5bhp) and something that will lubricate my engine REALLY well seeing as i spend most of my time on the high revs. any recomendations??

I've got some 20w50 for my '89 1.6 Driver (carb)
Bought it before I read the Oil Guide (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=59315.0)

and yes I plan on using it
From what I understand the older the engine the thicker you want to use. Oh and the 20w50 is mineral based

castrol preferably? Do you like paying for a label?
get some boggo synta, or even halfords oil (made by comma) 10/40 will be fine.

if you believe that, then me making a silly face at your post adds at least 20hp to whatever car you are driving. Please send me your entire bank account.

lol, there was a vid on youtube of a car using nromal oil and then a decent oil on a dyno, difference was increased torque and a few more bhp.

^^^ i agree but i dnt think it actually increases horse power, just gives the horse power back that it should have already

might be that then:D
