Title: mk3 8v budget exhaust project feedback and ideas wanted
Post by: remapped on 24 February 2008, 20:29
hey all

for a while i have been driving the golf whit a knacked exhaust system and now its blowing in every possible joint and corner and the cat is rattling !!!  the sound is getting unforgeable.

ok the main reason i haven't changed it all,  is due to cost ! but i wanted to see if i could fix this on a budget of £ 150- 200

so far i have manged to get the following

janspped decat pipe form ebay £40 sent to my door :)
volksbits center replacement pipe £25 sent to door as well !!

budget cost so far £65

the next step is to find a good back box do i get a nice SS one or could i get away whit using a standard one and spraying it up black ?? keeping it stealth looking ???

what do you all think of the set up so far ?

.

Would that decat pipe pass an MOT?

And does that other pipe replace the center box?

ahh i see, as my mot is soon, but that pipe replacing the centre box would fix my center box with the hole! lol.

if you use the standard back box it wont increase noise massively... all though fitting a sports back box will get you noticed! I was in 2 minds as wether to buy the pipe but thought i would see how my backbox was first and i like the noise it gives

So replacin the center box with the pipe wil make it much louder? Also will it affect emmisions at all? Make it less mot worthy?

Well could i fit a universal exhaust with this pipe to get it cheaper?

As an exhaust for a mk3 just seems to be more expensive? What are the differences?

the mk3 ones are ment to be direct fit so means they sell less uni ones the can sell more off

cheepist one i have found is piper £130

if you have a mate who is good whit a welder or if you can weld (which i can not ) that pipe and a uni back box is a good idea may be a tad loud tho ?

I think from GSF they are the "rear silencer" ??

ONe has BQ next to it though, whats that mean?

25277F SILENCER-REAR  G3 2.0 8v MPi Hatchback 11/91 >12/97  £31.90

25277H SILENCER-REAR(BQ)  G3 2.0 8v MPi Hatchback 11/91 >12/97  £64.50

Im sure it will sound more beefy than standard, i might fit this until i can afford a better rear box, just so i can put it in an mot.
