Oil level ok?

GSF ones on my valver worked fine about £4.75 each, x16 = ouch. Are you handy with spanners?

its a piece of cake with an 8v. do it yourself for. just make sure you know, or know someone that can do your timing

I have these in my valver (2 sets obviously )

no probs so far and I've done a fair few miles!

Plus they are easy to change, cam cover off, cam/s out magnetic thingy makes it easy to pull them out, drop your new ones in etc...

yep some days it quick..  other days its slow.  shame its normally the latter tho.

seems to take ages to rev up (if ya get me) like a 1.1 with a back box screeming along doing 20mph when it sounds like it should be doing 80!!

i have serviced it when i got it...  dizzy seems clean (i have also cleaned the points in there) the rotor arm is still shiney gold.. dunno what else to do. i have had loads of gtis b4 and this 1 is no were near as quick as previous ones. timings??? MAF???  bloody cars!! lol

euro car parts for mine, nice and qiet, not i can only hear the bottom end knocking!

tappets are a morning job, just take your time(!!!!!!!!!) tightening up the camshaft when putting it all together, i did mine in a rush, and snapped a cam bridge(the caps that hold the camshaft down) and then found out each is specific to the engine, although that didnt stop me stripping an old engine and getting one from there haha! works fine though tbh.

anyways, its a reletivly easy job, just monotonous...abit like my post.

Don't ever use a magnet to pull out tappets. Inside the tappets is a ball valve. If this ball get polarised, it will not seat and the tappet will not pump up properly. You will have a tappety engine again.

its easy to do, but time consuming, like i said, very boring. lots of nuts and bolts to fiddle with, and everything has to be done in sequence otherwise you snap things that should not be snapped.

i was gonan get it done, but then i bought the tappets, got bored one saturday morning, and did it my self, all you need is spanners and a socket set.

timing is tricky, i marked mine up on the belt and wheel, made sure it all lined up when i put it back together, and while doing it made sure the belt didnt jump a tooth by tieing it up tight to the bonnet(improvised with strin!) and just took my time.

looks a big job, but trust me its not at all. easier than mucking about with stereo installs and stuff.

just make sure you buy a decent gasket for the rocker and you get all the old gasket off too!

lol nothings easyer than fiddling with stereos!!

maybe ill have to buy a socket set... open the bonnet and look at the engine! lol

im quite good with most things with cars, but somthings tellin me not to do it. think the timings scaring me off..   :undecided:

it also depends on how much you need your motor. if you can afford to have off the road for a few days if things go wrong then go for it.

£200 could easily be saved!
