Title: an investment oppurtunity?
Post by: AdamB on 04 April 2004, 08:43
Just having a glance through the classifieds in "The Golf", it would appear that the later mk1 Cabs like the Sportline and Rivage, are really starting to increase in value.
There are a few going for between ?4500 and ?4750, that are a couple of years older than mine. I saw a non-running sportline for 2500 euros a couple of months back, there is a 1990 clipper (non-GTI) for private sale at ?3200, and I recently saw a cab on a forecourt for ?5995. Even 20 year old cab in good nick are fetching close to 2 grand
I paid ?3500 for mine a couple of years back, so have they really started to go up in value, or is it wishful thinking?

;D Lets hope all cabby's are going up in price like Mk1 gti's have.

Would you pay more for a Clipper or a gti Cabby?  Just interested?

even clippers have gone up in value, but the kudos of a GTI is always a factor. A GTI with the clipper kit on it looks best of all though.

Rich, you got one hell of a bargain with yours mate, but I dont reckon you can put a price the amount of love and work you put into your cars.

Got the wheels from Gemrnay via Dubmeister website, they are something else in the "flesh", the pics really dont do them justice.

Thats is my real number plate, the police are none too keen on it though, so the back one is totally legit, with a legit front one for "road use"  ;)

Cheers Ads, hopefully I'll be saying the same about my mk1 GTI tin-top in a few years time...........can't really go wrong being that I didn't pay anything for it ;)

I hope you are right Adam, I paid slightly over the odds for my Rivage last year, but the cabs do seem to be holding their money these days  ;D
I keep an eye on autotrader every week for rivages and sportlines but I dont think they are quite up to the prices of the specialised magazine prices.........yet  :D

Nice looking sportline by the way  ;D

hi

this thread has really got me thinking!!!!! my mate about 5 years ago bought an absolutely mint 90 gti cabriolet!!! which in looks was is the same kit as adams red one!!!

over the years it has had a few srapes and bumps and he recently rolled into someones tow bar!!! so it is is need of going to the body shop really to be sorted!

no wthe best part hes looking at scrapping it or selling it on for next to nothing!! ie about ?500 i reckon its an 8v and is in the mettalic royal blue colour! after reading this thread i think im gonna invest in this car and sort it out as it runs fine and make it into its former glory once again!!!

what you think???

Scott

hey kuk sool,

remember that a full respray is gonna cost atleast 1500. When I bought mine I had little idea how much it was going to cost to get it perfect but its value is alot less then I have spent already so beware! :-\
