Hi Folks,
I know not an aweful lot about KJet GTI's as I've always had Digiphant ones, but while working on peels early MKII GTI we found something I was not sure about.
In the pic below you can see a clear plastic vacuum hose that isn't connected to anything.

As his MPG doesn't work on his MFA I assumed it was for that. So I plugged it into a little black hose that is poking out in the picture below. You can see it just above the 5th injector on the pipes coming out of the side of the inlet manifold.

This seemed the right thing to do as neither hoses were plugged. However this had a strange effect and when starting the car the revs were going up and down and it nearly stalled all the time. When nearly stalling the relay just above the air box in the pic below was clicking madly.

Once the pipework was disconected all was fine again.
Does anyone know what the deal is with these pipes? Surely them both being open ended is not correct?

Thought I might be able to help, but thats way different to my 16v kjet.

I'll have a look in a minute once i've been in the bath. Although i don't think i have that relay behind the airbox... :undecided:

maybe because it looks loke an 8v

You were exactly right the first time. Thats the hose that goes into the back of the clocks for the MFA, and yes, it does connect to that throttle housing vacuum.
If its not running right with it plugged in, its either coincidence - or perhaps theres something odd with the clocks/hose.

Yeah I know, I meant that I thought they would be more similar e.g. vac pipes etc.

Hup, anyone?

maybe leave it plugged in and reset the idle/ig. timing/co2?
-
There is no good reason for it to cause an issue. At the moment you have a vacuum leak, if you put your finger over the top of that black union - does the car run funny (because theres no way on earth it should make a difference). Hooking up the guages should have no impact, I think your problem lies elsewhere.
-
Yup putting finger over the union causes the idle to drop. Plugging in the vacuum pipe causes rough running.

Then it looks like someone has tweaked the idle/CO2 without realising there was a vacuum leak to account for it. Stick the hose back in, then as above, retune the engine.

Sounds like a plan. I'll let peel know (It's not my car!).
