Right, as some of you know, i have being having a problem to do with my car limiting at 5000rpm for some time. I plugged it into a vagcom 2 weeks ago. It came up with a hall sender fault code. I changed the whole distributor and it is exactly the same :sick
I then referred back to some diagrams to do with the timing that bored welsh lad sent me a couple of months ago. It said that when the cam is aligned at top dead centre then the rotor arm in the dizzy should look like this:

I have now discovered that it doesnt. So i think this is my problem. Below is a diagram that shows where 2 marks should line up on the intermediate and crank (i think there called that). I have two questions about it.....

Where i have marked A in yellow. Am i right in thinking this Is the mark im looking for on the sprocket a dot in between O and T like on the crank sprocket? If this is the case, Ive marked B where the dot actually is on that sprocket when the engine is at top dead centre. Am i right in thinking this is wrong????
I hope that makes some kind of sense, im finding it quite hard to explain!
Any help would be appreciated.

When i did the belt on mine, i put the top and bottom pulley marks to where they should be, then timed the intermediate shaft by removing the dizzy cap and aiming the rotar arm at the notch in the distributer. It runs fine, but to be honest i dont think i have ever revved it over 5000rpm :embarassed:

The thing is tho, there are three marks, and im not quite sure where they should line up on the intermediate sprocket. When it is TDC.

i always use the mark on the rotor to lign it up

Yeh dont worry to much about the mark on the intermediate pulley, just line the O.T mark up on the camshaft pulley (top) and set the bottom pulley to T.D.C. Then remove the distributer cap and turn the intermediate shaft untill the rotary arm points directly at the notch in the distributer.
