Nice one Phil,
If you get it, you'll love it
-
nice one Phil , I guess my voodoo worked
-
cheers john_o!! it worked,
i went to a car dealer local to me and showed the missus the Horrid interia of the ed30, same as i first thought before seeing it in the flesh. She changed her mind the minute she saw it, saying"oh its better like you say!".
Ive seen several close up pics, car seems to be in prestine condition. once i have conformation that my trade in price for the passat still stands, it will work out that i pay ZERO for the pleasure of the ed30.! i will pay a small deposit over phone which holds the car untill i view it monday, if i dont like it, car dealer has told me he will refund my deposit. The dealers that have are actually right next door to a vw main dealer ive been told.So any drama's i can always run nxt door!.

hehe, I'm sure the Ed30 (if it is a nice tidy car) is deffo a better option... you'd only wanna chip the GTI to match the Ed power....
so you can now chip the Ed30 if you really "need" more
Insured my Ed30 ready for the 7th March when hopefully I collect it.... can't wait!
-
I'm not sure why the ED30 interior doesn't look nearly so good in pics as in the flesh... but when you see it in the flesh, it really is rather lovely. :nerd:
-
This is great Phil
Will be holding thumbs that you can get the Ed30. You will love it!
I really wish South Africa got the Edition 30 :undecided:
-
I really wished that Gib would get the ED30 aswell but it seems a special unit sold to UK and Germany only....

BAD NEWS!!
I did some detective work with the cars reg plate at my local VW dealer. this edition 30 was registered 12th jan 07. im so glad i looked into this before riving 150 miles to see it in the flesh.
According to Vw data base, theres no record of having its 10000 mile service although man at the the selling dealerships says it is????.Also it had get this 3 keepers from new!!! in one year!!.And lastly to put the icing on the cake, it also had 4 warranty claims for "top coat soft" in bonnet/front panel, front right wing, front left wing, and front bumper/front appron.
its also had claim for seat upholstery on the drivers seat !.
If ever thats a friday afternoon car, i think thats it.
AVOID THIS CAR AT ALL COSTS!
Here is the link to the car so you can have a look, if its local to you boys up north near Nottingham, then have a gander. Looks like i will be sticking to buy the Black GTi on march 4th afterall.Im still happy with this with £2000 cash back and higher spec.

DAM!
Im really sorry about the loss. But wow. This should act as a warning. Thank heavens you did your research. The missus would never let you sell it again and buy anothe Golf.
Serious Friday build
Sorry Phil.

dam mate!!
im sure theres been like several guys trying to sell theres from this forum?
-
Warranty claim info sounds odd but could be just a bad job which has now been fixed, it was done under warranty after all....
3 owners is a concernt though and the fact no service history - but does it really need a service at 10k though if its on Long life?
Does seem very cheap though for a DSG car, afterall it would have a list of £23 odd...
-
Well, have found out that the car was serviced by a Barnsley vw dealer, (service log is stamped) the dealership were not aware that there were paint defects and upholstery claims made. From what i know it was a dealer demo to start with, 1st owner then sold it back to same dealer.(for what reason i guess he was not happy with the quality build of the car. Dealer then flogged it on to SMC sales (now 4 keepers in total).Ive advised him to walk nxt door from his car showroom to a Vw nxt door and look at the history for himself.
What makes me even more dubious is that why is a top spec GTi not being sold from volkswagen dealer????.
By the sounds of it, its a reject from a customer, in which dealer sold him same car but total replacement. dealership sells dumped GTi for cheap money. He did sound very surprised and said hes now concered he's been mis-sold a car (hes not a young guy either by the sounds of it).He cannot see any visual defects looking at it himself, although he may say and is rather easy to say that with me sat 150 miles from him!.
i think im gonna take the safe bet, and go for the black GTi, has all the bells and whistles with cashback.
-
damn!
What I would say is that if has been resprayed its been done well (from look in photos) as its a difficult colour to match.
3-4 owners is a killer though.
Id still be tempted to go see it though, and knock even more money off if u were still interested.
without seeing it in the flesh youll never know.
But for some people (including me) taking on a car with a chequered past would be very diff

I'm pretty sure that I have seen this car 99% anyway (On the road and on the Forecourt of the VW dealer). It was the first ED30 that they had.
The guy who bought it was a car dealer in the area. He bought it for his girlfriend.
However, they split up. The dealership then put it on their forcourt for a while to see if they could move it for him.
After that I don't know what happend to it.
Give the dealership a call about the history, they are very friendly and helpful.
If you want some names to speak to send me a PM.
I had a new "upper seat" cover fitted by them. Within six months of getting my car. Touch wood it has been ok since.

Do what sounds right, to be honest it would take a lot for me to swap my high spec'd GTI for a lower spec'd Ed30
-
Yeah, do what you feel right. Last thing you want to do is get a car and be disappointed with it right from the word go. You will find it more difficult to shift yourself as well.
