Just upgraded to 280's on my 8v, also installed goodridge brake pipes all round, brakes are much better but there is one issue - if I am not very easy on the pedal they seem to lock up much quicker then my old brakes (I thought it would be the opposite) if they do lock up i can see smoke coming off the tyres when I am driving, my G60 never locked up as easily, if I ease them on they seem very good, is there a reason they lock up easily?

Bigger brakes give you more stopping power so it's easier to lock the wheels surely? :undecided:

i did the same upgrade and know where your coming from. ive cured mine by softer front shock absorber settings (alows slight dive under braking instead of a skimming over the tarmac effect) and more importantly really good quality tyres- Goodyear Eagle F1 are my personal preferance and ive had all makes before lol! :smiley:

What I was thinking! The softer shocks also sounds like a good idea.

I see where you are coming from, just don't like the thought of my wheels locking up so easily, I have Goodyear Eagle F1's on the car and also just replaced the front suspension with standard stuff. Just strange as my Golf G60 was never as bad

Checked your tyre pressures?
How many miles have you done since fitting them?
They might well be a bit 'grabby' until they're bedded in, especially with new lines and fluid etc - you need to consider that you're making a big 'cultural change' to driving your car - they inputs you're familiar with making have been shot away by these sharp new brakes. Are you sure the bias valve is working properly? If it's not then maybe you're getting nothing on the rears to balance the braking effort out.

Only fitted them today but the hub was bolted straight of a G60 so pads and disks are not new, will know over the next few days when the fluid and lines settle. Not sure about the bias valve but the brakes were spot on before the upgrade.

yep 22mm fitted, they have settled a bit now, much better

is it the fronts or rears that lock up?
