the rubber bit which keeps the front brake hose to the strut has snapped because the metal hose has worn through it! i bet this is a common thing with metal braided hoses!
is this an mot failure! as its just there and not tied to the strut!
if it is i will get another rubber bit!!!!!
mot is next month so just getting little things done before i take it in!

This isn't conclusive, however, when I purchased mine the guy also gave me some appropriate x section fuel pipe to wrap around the braided brake pipe where it passes through said grommet. He said it was an MOT failure if the brake pipe wasn't securely held in the grommet.

ah cheers.... :D

As rich said above you can put extra pipe over the braid and push it into the rubber clip that attaches to the strut so its held nice and tight.
Another one I have tried is bath tap washers with a slit cut in so you can pop them on and glue the slit back up.
Handy to do if the hose comes close to the wheelarch on full lock.

I looked it up on the MOT site, the only reason I can see for it failing is that the pipe isnt secured as it should be so in theory could get damaged in use.
The actual braided line moving inside the rubber clip shouldnt fail the mot as long as it doesn't result in chaffing to the braided pipe.
