Hi,
I'm in the process of restoring my MK2 Golf GTI 8V (1991) and the power steering is making a loud screeching noise when I turn the steering wheel...
Any ideas whats causing the problem and which parts need fixing ??
Also is it an easy job that I can do myself I'm not a novice but not a qualified macanic either..
Appreaciate any help on this..
Thanks

Sounds like the belts slipping, either because its loose, worn out or both.

or the pump is fecked

check fluid level

if the belts slipping, would this cause dodgy steering? i.e. really vague steering and sloppy steering?

Hi mate.. I've got mk3 golf and my squeels when close to and on full lock, have been told that its nothing to worry about and most probly the fluid if thats any help!.
