Title: POWER STEERING SCREECHING
Post by: gnarlysurf on 19 February 2008, 17:41
Hi,

I'm in the process of restoring my MK2 Golf GTI 8V (1991) and the power steering is making a loud screeching noise when I turn the steering wheel...

Any ideas whats causing the problem and which parts need fixing ??

Also is it an easy job that I can do myself I'm not a novice but not a qualified macanic either..

Appreaciate any help on this..

Thanks
GS

Sounds like the belts slipping, either because its loose, worn out or both.

if the belts slipping, would this cause dodgy steering? i.e. really vague steering and sloppy steering?
