is it an 8 valve or 16!

if its 16 then its bad news but if its an 8 v it wont have touched it! it happened on mine and after looking on a technical webpage it said that 8 valves arnt damaged if the belt snaps!

and mine runs perfect!

Super f*kin sweet...hurrah it's an 8 VALVE!!!!  ;D

The dude who does our cars is super reasonable on price, so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem :D

Unfortunately I still reckon there is going to be some damage as not nice when a cambelt goes. Had it happen on another motor and was cheaper to get new head as it had bent 6 valves and snapped the cam :'(

valvers f**k valves up big style then your cam belt goes.

It all depends on what the engine speed is when the belt snaps. If your just moving away you might get away with it. If your caning it then it will probably knacker it in style.

The moral of the story is to change the belt if unsure of the history, if you've been told its been changed but have no proof in the history then change it again as its cheaper than a rebuild and new valves.

Also always use ORIGINAL PARTS for it and always, always, always fit a new cam belt tensioner as this is normally what seizes up and knackers the belt.

if you take the spark plugs out you may be able to see if there is any damage! bent valves etc!!!

if it looks like its going to cost you a packet, check out the first section of this month's golf mag, there's a company selling off its stock of recon mk2 lumps, six hundred and something quid for the engine including vat and delivery...and no exchange!  ;)
