I had to replace a fron tyre on my GTI last week, pot hole damage to tyre wall, I found a place that had 2 Goodyear F1's aysimetric's. Long story short... The guy totall foooked up 1 alloy and scratched the second one. I now need to replace at least 1 18" (Monza or Detroit??? not sure of the exact name) alloy. Any Ideas on how much the replacement (Genune) alloy will cost the Tyre House.

get the tosser who damaged it for you to pay! if i took my car to have some tyres replaced and they damaged them , i would make sure it was them picking up the bill. good luck.

...same here mate, get them to either replace or repair as good as new.

You always get some that dont care.. I had a mobile fitter from one of the big names to fit 2 new tyres for me. I have been very careful not to scratch my Monza's and to my disbelief there was a scrape all the way round on both wheels. I called up and complained, a guy came to inspect them, apologised and sent a wheel company to see if they could repair them. The guy turned up said no chance, they are diamond finished then lacquered. They will be fitting 2 new genuine VW Monza's to my car this week
According to the parts catalogue (not sure how accurate this is) your looking at around £400. It does say qty4 but that seems a bit cheap so I guess it must per wheel.

Where did you go, I'm in Dublin and about to get two fronts so I want to avoid some fecker grinding the rim edge putting on the new tyre.

I'd be interested in hearing how much replacements cost in Ireland too... I had a similar incident. Hit a pothole a few weeks ago, and as luck would have it, the impact slightly scuffed the wheel too. Its a very minor mark on the wheel, really not bad enough to go forking out shedloads for a new one! I believe they cost €400 a piece or thereabouts?
I did get the tyre replaced thou (€230 for 1 bridgestone! Was I ripped off?!!), and I was bricking it that the fitter would do damage like you got! But fortunately, he was careful!!

Holy sh!t - i thought these days modern equipment was less likely to damage your rims while changing a tyre, is there still a risk with this?

Just had a tyre replaced by STS Tyre Pro's in Aylesbury due to an embedded nail.
Told the manager to be very careful not to scratch the wheel. He took me outside to inspect the wheel and told me there was already scratching around the surface - it was just dirt which wiped away. He then told me that they were apprehensive about doing the job, if i was worried about the alloy getting scratched! What sort of response it that!
I was very apprehensive after he told me that as it sounded like they normally get away with scratching the wheel! Needed to get it done as slow puncture needs reinflating every 24hrs and got a 400 mile trip up north on Thursday evening.
Replaced the tyre within 40mins with no scratching and £127 lighter (Continetal SportContact3).
Always worth letting them know that it is £400 to replace the wheel - seemed to make them take just a little bit more care.

Joe, I'm about to get two fronts from www.eiretyres.com the prices are considerably lower then other places and the delivery is free in ireland. The local fitter at home will put them on for around 20 euro.

OMG  I can't believe they actually did that to your wheels... They did this to mine, not as bad as yours and I got 2 brand new Monzas fitted today FOC, I was told the fitter will probably have to pay for them at £335+vat each...
Make sure you ask for 2 brand new wheels from them
