Hello, i was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way of finding out a cars true mileage? I've bought a 52 plate GTI with 33,000 miles on the clock but the steering wheel is a bit worn as is the gaiter. The paper work all adds up but i'm still suspicious. I've been told the ECU will tell me - is this true?

I brought a gti 02 plate from the main vw dealer with 44k on the clock.
The steering wheel is a bit worn on mine too.
I guess they just ware quickly.
If all the paperwork (MOT, Service record) corresponds then it should be fine.

I have a 2000 x plate with 85k miles, the steering wheel, pedal rubbers and gear gaiter are all in great condition. The trim material in the mk4 is generally good so I would be a bit suspicious at anything looking worn at those mileages....
Phone the garages that did the servicing, ask them what the milage was at the last service. If you're lucky its had a full vw service so all the records will be computerised and they will be able to tell you everything thats been done and more importantly at what mileage.
