Title: Steering Effort.
Post by: arletty69 on 18 February 2008, 13:42
I find the steering on my GTI a little heavy at 'parking speeds'.  Difficult to spin the wheel with the palm of your hand! I would have thought that with the variable, speed sensitive electro machanical steering rack that at very slow speeds the steering should be ultra light.  I heard somewhere that this may be adjustable through VAG-COM.  Does anyone have any experience of this?

Yes it is adjustable - on a scale from 1 - 5/6 approx.

Standard UK set up is 3 but any VW dealer or someone with VAG-COM can adjust it to your preference.

Thanks for that Cass.  Good link with quite a bit of info.  Seems like I may have to invest in a Vag-Com cable!  Where do you guys source your cables?  Do you all buy the expensive Ross-Tech jobs or are there cheaper alternatives that work?

I have a Ross-Tech VAG-COM micro can. It is specific for the MKV Golf and costs less than having one that is backwards compatible to mkIV's. I think it was about £125 on a group buy

Thanks Hurdy.  Looks like the way to go.  Guess the cheapos on eBay are a waste of time?  Only get what you pay for, after all!
