Title: Time for a change?
Post by: eightyeightmph on 18 February 2008, 12:45
Call it illness, call it insanity but I'm contemplating chopping in the MK3 once it's all back up to standard...

...for this....

Thinking the 1.9 TDI, other 17" alloys, black leather interior, R32-ish Pearl Blue.....

Would be weird experience getting 50+ mpg

Test driving one on Wednesday hopefully!

Call me old fashioned but isn't that a bit of a girls car! Its just a golf mark 4 with less space?

It is a girls car.

Get a MK4 1.8T instead, much more fun. If you want your 50+ MPG get a MK4 GT TDI 130 / 150.

Case closed.

Hahaha some blindingly expected comments there!

Always had them figured as a 'girly' car but was in the stealership over the weekend (ordering parts for the GTi   ) and they had the 'new' facelift models in & they don't look half bad.

Never liked them but the new ones are a little meaner, bigger wheels, crystal lights, sportier suspension etc.

Agreed Mikester, no man under any circumstances should drive a convertible, and I wouldn't, but the hard top, 1.9 TDi (105PS) looking very similar to the above, just looks.... well, good!

Reminds me of my last bug...

I'd love a GT TDi but they arn't that 'available' & seem to be quite pricey for the age/mileage on them. Never had a 'new' new car, & I'm not a fan of the MK5's & the GTi's are too expensive. Like the idea of something in a lower insurance band that doesn't cost £50 a week in fuel.

Got a 'project' in the garage & the MK3 is sucking up all the money I try to put towards the resto!

Not 100% sure yet, & have never even sat in one let alone driven one, so will see what they're like. Might look at the Polo GTi's as well, but I'd imagine they're a little pricey!?

Hell, you should be encouraging me to swap, means theres an awesome 16V up for grabs, not only that but in the best colour too!

Again i agree, and i would have it if it wasnt 5 door...... :( no offence.

If you want economy maybe a mk6 feista zetec deisel or something!?

But i reckon, that you will get this new diesel, be it a bettle of something else, and will want the power back of the gti soon after!

Defo want to stay VW, I enjoy the GTi just fancy a change & the amount I fork out a month on GTi bits would cover a new one on finance....

Hahaha.

Just to note the new Polo GTi's are .... well, sh!t. Hardly any dealer options & they look like 4x4's as standard!

Hmmm, decisions decisions :undecided:

Whats your budget for a new motor?
Title: Re: Time for a change?
Post by: kells on 18 February 2008, 17:01
my bird has had 3 new beetles, a blue hard top when they first came out, then a silver soft top bought brand new, went back after a month as it kept having problems, they replaced it free of charge with a black soft top, great cars but i think they are a bit woman ish (in soft top form)

they are very good cars tho, and if your into bugs which its clear you are, then i say why not
