Title: common mk2 driver problems

has anyone got a list or a link of the common faults on the mk2 1.6 driver please,im having problems with what i think is the carb,when it starts from cold it runs lumpy then after 5 mins the revs are up to 2k on idle,it also stinks really bad off petrol.is it a vacume or is the carb knackered?im not mechanicaly minded so thanks for any help
