Hi Iv got a Volkswagen Golf 1994
Downside it doesnt have PAS.
Just wondering if there is a way to fit PAS? and how much it would cost?
Thanks.
-
Cheapest way would be to sell up and buy a mk3 with it to be honest
-
as stated unless you have a spare golf with pas allready fitted to donate the parts...
-
i have no pas either on my 1.4 1993 golf, ive also been thinkin could this be done , getting hold of the parts wouldnt be a problem as i live down the road from a vw breakers yard and parts are really cheap, especially for a 1.4 because not many people have 1.4 golfs so there is not alot of people who want parts for them
-
Yea same here i live right near a brakers yard so parts wouldnt be a problem id just need to know what to look for and possibly an FAQ on how to do it.
let me know if you have any joy.
Plans for mine are, Coilovers, electric windows, electric m3 mirrors, debadged and a complete colour code.
1 More thing does anyone happen to have any tips on rusting? iv got a problem on the drivers door bottom corner pretty badly rusted.
Thanks.

If you mean the sill, basically cut it out and weld a new bit of metal in, this area of the car with rust is awful, and can kill your car, if its bigger than a pennie, please dont fill it
-
The rust is in the corner towards the back id say it is pretty bad!
ill prob just end up smoothing it over with something.

Realy dont, it will just eat away until it gets to the point it cant be welded up. get it done properly.

Its not the sill its the atual door. how much do you think it would cost to repair?

If its the door, stuff it, cheaper to replace teh door!
-
yeah find someone breaking a same colour golf and swap the whole door...all mk3's at some point rust at the door bottoms and if caught when it first happens you can repair as new
-
anyway back to the point ,
fitting power steering can it be done?
if i have all the parts needed how much labour would it be, and were could i get it done?
-
it would take 6-8 hours to fit i reckon (using good parts and a good base car..more if theres any problems!)..£300 maybe?? plus parts!!
-
so do you know were i could get this done,
i think it would be worth it for £300 as i plan to keep this car untill it dies, wich wont be for a few years (touch wood)
-
phone around you local area and ask...maybe wise to use a vw specialist tho?
I would keep it non pas or buy one with it all ready fitted!... but if you do go for it make sure you dont buy any gti/vr steering parts as they have a weightier and stiffer steering set up...and are not interchangable!!
-
Yea same here i think it could well be worth investing in PAS
-
job could be done in a few hours.
-
i think wot im gunna do is put some 15inch alloys on the car and lower it 60/40 and see if that makes the steering a bit easier, maybe some powerflex bushes would help aswell, and a nice new steering wheel with loads of grip
anyone know of anything else i can do to my non power steering to make it feel easier to drive and more responsive???
-
Drive faster?
:P
Yea same for mine think PAS is outta the window.
Wana get some 16's and lower it possibly 30/30 cant have it too low as i live in speed bump central lol.
WK.

i have heard that you can modify your steering so that there is less turns from left lock to right lock,
anyone know how to do this
-
rally cars have them ,my mates mk 2 road rally car is only 1 and half turn left to right its mad as hell
-
my old mk1 escort had a quick rack ideal for tailout slides (that i did far too often and with around 130bhp it was really really easy!!)....dont think they make them for mk3 golf's tho?
