Hi Everyone,
I am looking at getting a gti ed 30 (second hand) with dsg and have a couple of questions that remain unanswered after a quick search through some of the past threads.
1) Considering its second hand, what stuff do i need to look for that maight easilly crap out?
1) DSG - In manually triptonic mode, i have read reports of the dsg auto shifting when you redline, if you upshift at teh same time, it can lead to a double shift! Have any of you DSG users experienced this? (I have never owned an auto before but have decided to take a giant leap of faith!!)
Lovin the forum by the way, lots of passive help already gleamed haha.
Thanks all.

Hey
Try the search button. Cos usually when someone aks about DSG vs Manul we get a cat fight and opinions fly.
To attempt to answer your questions:
1. There is a thread in the Sticky Section:
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=64432.0
That should help with checks on both new and second hand cars.
2. We have a manual. But according to the other the DSG gearbox keeps the revs higher for longer when flooring the car so you should not get an upshift when cornering.
The DSG box has two options. Either in Drive I think it is where the car will change gears automatically. You also have the flappy paddles on the steering wheel if you want to change the gears yourself and a S mode for when you go through the boy racer stage of owning your GTi and want that extra boost
I dont think I have heard of the double shift thing though... DSG owners. Shed some light please

my passat DSG in S mode DOES double shift, but it never happened in my previous GTi DSG so shouldnt be an issue.

1. ED 30's are'nt that old so theres' not a lot of faults been reported - it will also still have VW warranty so not too much to worry about. Typical things I've heard of are leaky boot seals, creaking steering racks, wind noise around front doors, erratic rear wipers... If you buy privately check whether it's an import (only 2 years warranty on these) , service history etc.
2. I ran a Mk V DSG for 18 months and never ever had a double shift in manual mode - basically you will soon learn that the box auto changes up at the red line, therefore you would either make a manual change before then or just wait for the auto change. Don't confuse the DSG with a typical automatic, the DSG is far superior and so so versatile - you won't be disappointed

There is a Ex-demo at Horsham VW (sidlow) White 5dr DSG, not sure how much there asking for it tho

The dsg shouldn't be or sound too rough, it shouldnt "slam" or "bang" into gear. Be wary of any whines, clunks, crunches and odd noises.
