Title: Noisey fuel pump
Post by: BIG D on 16 February 2008, 22:26: I heard it today whining all the time and the car wasnt running very well is this normall or do i need a new pump.Ive heard that if the lift pump go's it can put extra strain on the main pump
any info will be very helpfull

Post by: md1980 on 16 February 2008, 22:35: it may be your in tank pump is shafted this will make the main pump work harder and could cause it to be noisey

Post by: Conker on 17 February 2008, 12:56: You can unplug the electrical connector to your main fuel pump, turn on the ignition, and you should hear the lift pump prime apparently. They are dead cheap to replace by the way and easy to access via the access panel under the boot carpet.

How loud is the lift pump when it primes? I have a the same problem so have done as you suggested and can't hear it when sat in the car. Do you need to have your head in the boot to hear it or is mine knackered? cheers

Post by: rubjonny on 25 February 2008, 18:54: its pretty quiet, best way to hear it is to disconnect the plug for the main pump and turn the key 1 click, you'll hear it then :) You could put your eart up to the round metal flap in the boot too, but it can still be prety hard to hear i over the noise of the main pump.
