I'm having real trouble finding a mk4 GT TDI at the moment, so am considering buying a mk4 1.8T GTi instead. What kind of mileage would you class as reasonable for a 7 or 8 year old model? Would 80k be fair, too high?
How many miles are the GTi's usually good for?
Thanks!

80000 is fair for the age TBH. Average is 12K a year.
My 1.8T (also a 2000 plate) has 115k and drives like new tho i have owned it since 62000 and always had regular services done (every 6000!!)
Ive heard of 1.8T's having 130k on the same turbo! Ive just had my first fault with the engine- a thermostat cost £16!!! :afro:

No probs mate. The 1.8T can suffer from coilpacks being faulty

I think I can knock the guy down on price, he say's it's just been serviced.

Guys, I went to look at it, and it looks completely legit! The car's been serviced every single year, so mileage proved. The last service way July 07 when it had a new cam belt and 4 new tyres put into it!!
I just bought it! I didn't haggle on price because it was plainly obvious it was going to sell, and he's MOT'ing it for me for free.
£400 deposit, then the rest when I pick it up when my loan comes through and I've sorted insurance out.

I did indeed. I had a lot of trouble not accidentally slipping and shooting up to 40 or 50mph, it just has so much power on it.
So hopefully I'm a full member of the GTi club now

Well I've just been told by someone I paid too much for it, some people  I think it was a good price considering the condition.

thats a gem of a buy that. I think mine had 28k or summat on the clock when i bought it n i paid summat like £5k. Its worth all that time trawlin through autotrader wen i find that bargain car.
-
I dunno it's useful or not, but the engine code is: AGU111382. What can that tell me?
God I've SO many things to buy for the car once it's come. Rear spoiler, front valance, possibly skirts. Then there's new pedals, gearknob, and I need to sort out the minging wood effect dash bit in the middle. Then there's the dump valve, and possibly a re-map. I'm thinking maybe Awesome up in Manchester for that.
Anyone know what VW have to say about re-maps when you go for a service?
