Title: Black seals leaking black!

Hi all, having an annoyance with my window seals on my mk2. If it rains, they drip black a little bit down the paint! They haven't been back to blacked or boot polished or anything like that as I didn't think it'd work on them!

Any idea why this is and how I can stop it? When it's dry if I rub it with a white cloth, it leaves black on the cloth.. Any idea?


Having a white car, this annoys me!

Try a good scrub with a nail brush and your normal car wash products

I would do that and then try a polish with AutoGlyms Vinyl & Rubber care as it might help "seal" the rubber.

snap mate i've forgotton about this. got a white 1.3 mk2 and i think its because the seals are old they break down and dirt gets trapped under the seals, then when wet the crud seeps out and ruins the door!

i'd try replacing the window seals on one window with a new or cleaner one and if that works then do it all round. taking the seals off and giving them a good clean shouldn't hurt though. this is the only solution i can think of and the only reason i haven't done it is because i'd forgotton about it! glad this thread is here to remind me!

Car shampoos are bad fora causing this. I found on my old MKII the best thingt o do was give all the rubbers a light rubbing with Vaseline (insert smutty joke here.) Keeps em sealed and glossy!

vaseline hmmm :smug: may have to dig real deep in the garage and see if i can find an old pot somewhere! :grin:
