hey guys, the front heat shield on my exhaust has bee rattling badly for some time now.... one exhaust place said i shouldnt take it off, something to do with heat etc...
went to another exhaust place, they said ah no problem, we can take it off ... soo after a couple of hours, the heatshield came off!! my god it was a real mission to get it off. it was the shield that covers the exhaust from the lamda sensor up towards the engine bay... they said its not a problem taking it off...
are there any risks ??? and have any of u done this to yours??
cheers

I dont have one, cus it rattled, and im pretty sure loads of other people have done this. If the rear passengers complain of dizzyness and gettin warm, then its an issue!
-
i removed mine that was above the cat haha. the rest is holding up well. its not really needed just summat else to rot really

Plus the weight!

yeah and the weight lol

It is fine and no problems to take off the heatshield below the CAT.
Mine has been off for about 3 years now and been parked hot on grass etc. which is what they say you shouldnt do!
The other one up on the manifold is a whole different story altogether!
Been told the only way to cure that one is to take the manifold off completely and re-weld it but unless its essential to take the manifold off for other reasons then dont bother!
Mine has been resonating for 3 years or more and the revs change from time to time. Like it started at about 3800 and is now down to 2200.

Yeah, mine rattles like hell, but it becomes kind of reassuring after a while...

got the same problems with the one above the cat... i was going to try and get some sort of heat proofing or paste?? down between the exhaust and the shield, as it annoys the hell out of me. will this not work? i've heard thats its not a good idea to take it off either, it burns quite happily through the steering uj rubbers next to it to start with..
-
ooooops ... well thats the one i had removed ?!?!?!?!?!?! the guy at teh exhaust said that it wouldnt cause any problems??? been driving the car fine over the last few days ... no burning smells???
is it dangerous then by removing this shiled? as looking through the search facility, there are quite alot of u that have removed this heatshield too !!

Why would it be there if it's not required? think about it guys... you may not notice the damage straight away, but too much heat in the wrong place will do damage over time...
-
ive had my car for 12 months and not had one on in the time ive owned it no probs yet
-
Sorry to bring up and old thread but I too have this issue and want to get rid of this heat sheild as it rattles like a bastard and winds me up. Is there an easy way to remove or stap it down somehow to stop the rattle?

I'm with this guy, apart from Mikester & his weight reduction ideas, I can't help but think it's all there for a reason?
The centre console gets warm as it is let alone with no heat shields?
Mine's rattling atm, but the garage are sorting it whilst they fix up the sills!

Sweet that sounds like a good idea, so just wrap a fairly largish jubilee clip round the whole thing to stop it rattling yeah?
