Title: New Golf Owner
Post by: Wizzkidd on 13 February 2008, 19:03
Hi everyone.

New to the Golf scene so not too tuned into it all.

just bought a Burgundy 1994 VW Golf MK3 1.4 from a mate at work for £300.

I know a 1.4i has poor performance but its just a little project at the minute.

So id like a few ideas on Looks and maybe Performance if anyone can shed any ideas?

I will post pics on Sat.

Plus it has just done 122K Miles i know this sounds like a huge amount but apparently iv heard
these MK3's go for thousands of miles.

Id just like some help e.g Looks, Performance and things i should look out for?

Thanks!

122k is low mileage..... and i hate to say it but the 1.4 isnt really worth (or possible) to improve performance greatly!! you can put a filter and exhaust on...and these wont give much power but will sound much better
but the bodywork changes/possibilities are endless and there is some nice 1.4's around

welcome to mk3 ownership

Cheers mate,

Well i dont really know much about Cars either lol so might need to look up on an FAQ about all that .

Plus saw on posts on another forum about people fitting Power Steering and Electric Windows and Mirrors on MK3 Golfs?
Is that really possible? and is it difficult / expensive.

Cheers

does the car not have p.a.s?? i know a few didnt come with this and it's not really worth the work to convert.. oh and electric windows/mirrors are fairly simple, you just need all the parts..motors,regulators,switches and wiring. they should just plug into the original fuse box or even better the wires maybe allready there (mk3 golfs seem to all have the same wiring through to the doors etc?)

Ahh right sounds good, you know where i could find an FAQ on how to fit Elec Windows + Mirrors?

So i guess performance upgrades are pretty much out of the window?

Im getting the Car on Friday so ill upload pics on Sat.

welcome to being a mk3 owner. if ure wanting summat faster get summat faster. either the 2.0 8v or 16v have plenty of poke . use it as a daily driver and if insurance is too much for a bigger engine then get a years no claims then ure laughing. coilovers and wheels are the biggest things ya can do and can easily be swapped. colourcoding and debadging is another cheap easy mod :)

With the handling sorted with some new suspension, the 1.4 wont be an issue

Mate of mine had a burgundy 1.4 and he had a Powerflow stainless exhaust fitted with a decat and it sounded awesome for a 1.4, shame he had to put his cat back on and it lost that awesome sound.
