Title: RIP mk2....
Post by: Heyho on 13 February 2008, 18:41
On the way home from work last night, approaching a T-junction at about 5 mph, and some brain-donor in an E36 is turning left, but overcooks it and slams into my o/s, taking out both doors!

I was just about to get the damn thing buffed and waxed ready to sell it. Oh well.

We exchanged details, he admitted fault (actually he blamed the council for the road being icy - it must have been at least +8!). Surprisingly little damage to his car (apart from his own mods) - just bumper and headlight.

To speed things up, I've set the Accident exchange rottweilers on them - who have already delivered me a nice '57 plate Audi A3 Quattro turbo to run around in, and as I write this, the other guy's insurance company have called me to confirm that he has admitted liability.

I know it saves me the bother of cleaning and selling it, but it does tend to drag on a bit with insurance companies - still, I'm sure the fact that I'm in an expensive loan car will gee them up a bit.

oh I'm sorry to here about this m8 well summit has come good out of it I suppose and you shouldn't be really bothered about how long it takes just enjoy the quattro, If they've accepted liability shouldn't take that all long.

It's the other guy's insurance (equity red star), but because I'm using Accident exchange, they insist (or arrange regardless) a like for like replacement - hence the Audi - eqiuivalent to a Golf gti one would presume!

I know it's a write off, just a shame to see it go out like that - I was hoping somebody would love it again.

That's not a bad idea, but I've been repairing an E30 touring for the last couple of weeks, which is now ready, and the golf needs (apart from 2 doors) a gearbox rebuild and a new engine - both of which I'd do myself, but it's just having the time to do these things!

wait, why are they writing it off? it might just be me, but the damage dosnt look like write off material, unless the cars bent..

We'll see what happens - I might buy it back if I get the chance - then I'll just need somewhere to keep it!

If anybody here is ever involved in an accident which was not their fault, I can (so far!) recommend Accident exchange - I had the Audi within 6 hours of phoning them, which is being charged to the other guy's insurance at £140 per day!  They also deal with all of the correspondence with the other parties, so all you have to do is sit and wait.

You also have the option of taking out insurance to cover any costs not recovered in case all doesn't go to plan - well worth £10 for peace of mind I think.

As for the neck pain - it's always tempting, but all I want is what's owed to me.  I'm not in the slightest bit religious, but I do believe in karma.

^  Same thought here.

You know how it is with insurance companies though,  a 20yr old ish car is worth about 20p to them so they just write it off.

Buy it back stick two new doors on it!
