OK, I'll start us off,
I have the APR stage 1 remap on my manual ED30, as you can see from the rolling road print out the curves are similar to standard only more of everything everywhere. The midrange torque and top-end pull are brilliant and the map has made a really good car fantastic. The acceleration on the motorway is awesome and leaves you looking for a 7th gear as it pulls so well in 6th, yet it is perfectly docile in traffic. Fuel consumption doesn't seem to be affected to much unless your really pressing on then its quite thirsty.
I had cruise control fitted at the same time at Awesome so can now switch the map on and off if need be, although in 3 months have never switched it off.
The price if I remember correctly was 499 quid for the map and 150 for the cruise, plus the dreaded.
I do have Eibach coilovers, anti-roll bars, and ECS dogbone insert so this lot may help with gettin the power down but its still quite lively in the wet

Hi all,
A month ago had the Revo 5 hour trial by Steve Howe at Triple H Motor Sports 1 Back Claremont Grdns,Whitley Bay,NE26 3SE TEL:07711120884,and had a work trip to Edingburgh,so canned it all the way along the Coldstream road, what a difference!! It makes the car the car it should be.Although dont get me wrong, good performance before, but you had to keep it in the rev range and with a load ie wife kids and pram,i had to get the map on full time,so my £590 went yesterday and it is fantastic.Steve took me out on the coast rd and made sure all was well on his laptop after i had booted it, to show all parameters were fine,he sent me on my way.
Picked a mate up to collect our race parts for our bikes in Richmond Yorkshire, and my mate could not believe the boost in all the rev range.
So,now for a full Milltek res, carbanio, and Forge DV,then and just then,if i use my launch control on my DSG,i might have a chance to keep with the ED 30 boys, although Red Robin it to big an ask with his ballistic gti and just glad pesk and wolfbane are over seas!!!!
Might have Hurdy in my sights at the drag strip, remember my two spuds to stick in his exhaust pipes!!
Anyway, anyone with £600 spare and think the gti needs a boost, see revo and go for it.
Chris.

**UPDATED TO INCLUDE ROLLING ROAD RESULTS**
Revo review on a standard DSG GTi.
So, I've had the remap for about a month now and have been meaning to post my thoughts about it on here. So here goes..
After a lot of research and asking questions on here I decided that I would go for the Revo (http://www.revotechnik.com/products/softwareProduct.aspx?pvID=580) stage 1 remap. So I called my local Revo dealer and got myself booked in for the remap. When I showed up with the car to have the remap done, the first thing the dealer did was to run a VAG-COM check on the car to see if it had any fault codes. Once he was happy that the car had no outstanding fault codes he went ahead and uploaded the Revo map. The uploading of the Revo map took about 15-20 mins. Once the map was on board he asked me questions about what sort of driving I do with the car and what type of fuel I intended to run it on. I had been running it on 99RON fuel anyway but he advised me to keep the car on a strict diet of 99RON to get the most out of the remap. He then set up my Revo settings for running 99RON fuel. The Revo settings he set me up with were Boost 6, Timing 5, Fuel 6. He said he was setting my fuel at 6 (even though Revo recommend 9) because he said in his experience the GTi fuel pump isn't up to the job and a setting of 6 gives better results. He said that you see the ECU pulling timing a lot with a fuel setting of 9 because the fuel pump just can't keep up. I asked about doing a rolling road run and he said there was no point doing one straight away because the car would need several cold starts and a good bit of driving to allow the ECU to adapt to get the most out of the remap, but he did say to come back in about a month if I wanted a run on the RR. So he sent me on my way.
So, my thoughts, - well you notice the difference straight away. There was a huge increase in torque and power. I had a good stretch on the motorway on my way home and the pull in 5th and 6th gear was just incredible. I chickened out way before the car stopped pulling. The other thing that you notice is the turbo noise. On the standard map you had to listen really carefully to hear the turbo, but now there is no mistaking it - you can really hear the compressor working hard. The car still drives almost as standard when just pottering about and the DSG copes admirably with the extra power and torque. The gear changes are still as smooth as ever in both tiptronic and in D. The biggest thing you'll notice though is the extra torque. I regularly see the traction control light flashing in 3rd gear when you give it some beans and it's a bit wet. There is just so much more power and torque that it really does feel like a totally different car. The difference is just phenomenal. It has turned a quick car into a rocket ship!
I decided to buy the additional (but not required) Revo Select Plus (http://www.revotechnik.com/products/selectPlus.aspx) switch, which allows you to change the settings for boost, timing and fuel as well as switch to different performance/fuel programs and back to stock when required for dealer visits etc. Out of curiosity I turned the car back to stock settings last week with the switch to try it out and the car just felt so slow. I had to stop at the next junction and get the switch out to put it back on the Revo settings! It's funny how you just get used to all the extra power and torque and when it's not there you really notice it.
There have been no negatives so far for me. My MPG is pretty much the same and so far I've had no problems with DV's or anything else. It's still early days, but I think the components will hold up just fine.
The next step would be to go for Revo Stage 2 which requires a new downpipe and sports cat, but for the moment anyway Revo stage 1 is more than enough for me.
As for results, I don't have any rolling road figures yet, but the Revo dealer reckoned it would be putting out about 250bhp with Revo Stage 1, and my gut feeling is that 250bhp feels about right for what the car is driving like now. Revo claim their stage 1 software puts out 255bhp and 285 ft-lbs of torque. Next on the agenda is to get the car booked in for a run on the RR to get the real figures.
So if you're thinking about remapping your car - go for it. You won't regret it. It's well worth the money and I'm so glad I did it.
Here is the graph of results from my recent run on a dyno. Max BHP came out at 231, and max torque of 265 ft-lbs (360 Nm). The car is standard apart from the remap.

Well my trial APR map from Awesome has now come to an end, Only a week or so though to have it done properly  All I can say is that the APR map make a great car into an Awesome car. The difference between the standard map is night and day. The APR map is so smooth and progressive right the way through the rev range, no short sharp bursts of power, there just seems to be endless grunt right the way through the rev range. It actually makes the car much more enjoyable to drive, there is no dropping gears just put your foot down and it just pulls like a train. If you give it a good ragging just in every gear you wont be able to wipe the smile off your face, it just pins you back into the seat and the speedo just keeps going round the dial alarmingly fast, there will not be many cars that could keep up with a mapped ED30 nonce its going. If anybody is wanting to get there ED30 mapped don't hesitate to do it, I wish I would have done it sooner. I cannot recommend the APR remap enough!! :evil

Had the GTI "E-map" remap for a week now and to say I am completely satisfied would be an understatement.
Simon(Emaps) arrived last Saturday 10.00am as arranged. Simon started by carrying out a diagnostic on the ECU to ensure all was well ,once satisfied carried out the remp.
After the install we went out for a test drive to ensure the map was as it should be ie no fuel pump issues and pulling to the desired specification. The laptop was connected to the ECU during the process. The difference was emmence  An extra 50 BHP sure makes a difference, not only is it just quicker, its smoother throughout the rev range and in 3rd 4th and 5th it seems to have never ending power.
I would love to get it on a rolling road to confirm the exact BHP.
Simon also kindly altered my central locking function, so now when I unlock, all the doors open, not just drivers and NS passenger. He also activated the Auto central locking at 10mph. Ie all doors lock when car is travelling more than 10mph. All at no extra cost I might add.
Emaps are tried and tested and very well respected within the BMW community and I would have no hesitation in recommending them, very competitive too!
For more info check out their website www.e-maps.co.uk

I had my car in this afternoon to have Turbo back Miltek and Revo Remap done..
Had exhaust delivered straight to garage, so was waiting for me when I get there (big thanks to Jer off here from whom it came from). Anyway, left it with him for a few hours and came back just as he was going out finishing the mapping in my car.. Came back after twenty mins or so whilst I had a cuppa and all done. Been set on Boost 8, Timing 5 (to those who know Revo) and said she's running perfect. He couldn't obviously give a exact figure, but going off the readings etc and his experience he thinks she's nicely oiver 300 brake..
Anyway, I picked it up at about 5 and I have only just got in a few hours ago.. Can't stop driving it..
Anyway, my verdict........
I am blown away, I really am.. . I mean my LCR with Revo stage 1 was quick (14.0 @ 99mph @ Pod), but this thing is on another level . For example. There is a sign test I do near me that's good for testing the performance of a car and is about 1/4 mile or so from a RA on our local DC. In my old CTR, I managed about 102. In my LCR (Mapped) I use to get around 106 I did the same test in the Ed30 tonight and looked down at the speedo and it was reading 117!!!!! KMH obviously
The car has been RR'd at 320bhp and 362lb/ft.. Graph will be attached when I get my scanner..
Anyway, just thought i'd share my happiness with you as I am chuffed to bits with the car, really am!
Ben.

My remap experience has been very much the same as Max Q. I had never remapped any car before (I didn't feel my BMW needed it!) and so I took a very long time researching before taking the plunge at 23,000 miles. I also consulted my VW dealer beforehand. I already had done various hardware mods such as Milltek Hi-flow+Downpipe, Carbonio Intake, Suspension, and I chose Revo after talking on several occasions directly to them and also their agent JKM of Portsmouth - Not my closest Revo tuner but way and above the most helpful. For me it's not enough just to buy something - The aftersales service has to be very good.
Having DSG, I was particularly concerned not to overstress it with too much torque and Revo take that into account. Although the standard Mk5 GTI is an excellent performer, modifying it, and not just with a remap, has made it extremely well balanced and very tactile. I've driven all sorts of highly modified Mk5 GTI's and R32's but don't feel the need for more bhp.
Rolling-road numbers are never consistent and I think that the plot shapes and smoothness of curves are more important. Revo focus on driveability. My Mk5 GTI is on Stage1 and I have the switchbox but I'm not needing the extra power of Stage2 as I find my car very well balanced and unstressed. Besides, just how many neddies do you want straining at your front wheels throughout the typical seasons of UK weather.
Revo also work very closely with VW and often recieve their latest ECU updates at the same time as or even before the VW dealers.
I have the peace of mind that both Revo and their tuner JKM will always give excellent support should any problems arise - But after nearly 30,000 miles remapped I'm not expecting any!

Edition 30
DSG
Superchips Bluefin
Before 229bhp @ 5962rpm.
After 295bhp @ 6088rpm.
Pros - Very smooth, power comes in just like the graph on SC website - later than other remaps but the car seems to handle it better as a result. Easy to get done - took it to them and 2 hours later car was returned with RR graph. My graph showed more of an increase than the one they use as an example - but started slightly lower on power having only done 5K round town and not thrashed in any way. Car hardly twitches with the extra power due to it coming in mainly later than on a manual .... which is great. The manual SC remap is more aggressive but is toned down for DSG as power comes in to allow for the gearbox.
Cons - Could be more aggressive ... but then it wouldn't be anywhere near so smooth or allow the car to handle the power so well !!
Car is otherwise standard - straight remap only.
Overall very pleased with result which was as I wanted. Remap has also proved the one I test drove prior to buying mine new was infact a remapped car as it was identical to the SC power delivery .... I thought it was quick when I drove it as a demo ! Now glad mine is slightly more interesting
EDITED to add that Superchips now offer a newer map for the DSG Edition 30 that has bypassed the torque limit on the gearbox. They stress the gearbox can take it and it is within tolerances ..... but it is quite a bit different !
Any feeling the map lacked low down punch is clearly addressed by the newer one which is about as quick as anyone could want ! The older map was more easily driveable by virtue of less power coming in early. Now, with a bigger increase in the midrange it will spin the wheels earlier. I feel the older map was more useable and think they may have a market for offering two maps; one being a lower torque version ?
Both maps end up with the same peak power - it is just the midrange that is so different. If you like power rising with revs all the way to the red line then the old map is the best. If you like a typicaly turbo push in the midrange followed by a scream to the red line then the new map will do you nicely !

Keith at JKM, whom we all know as a bit of a 'TechHead' and someone who is very dedicated and a genuine enthusiast, has written a very comprehensive piece.
The information at this link was initially put together so that people can understand the rolling road procedure in a little more detail, and try to make it clear about the errors that can creep in when performance testing cars on a rolling road.
JKM tried to keep this report on track to be just about Dyno Dynamics, however it has gone into more technical detail to get various points across.
Hopefully this information will give people more of an insight into the technical side of the rolling road testing procedure along with things to be aware of and look out for.
I personally think that this info may be helpful to all, regardless of which rolling roads we go on.

State the car model - GTi TFSi
State manual or DSG - Manual
State Type of remap - MRC Custom remap plus gutted pre-cats and Miltek cat back (resonated)
State before and/or after dyno charts. - before (alledgedly) 214bhp waiting to RR for post remap power!
State pro's and cons - the car is now what it always should have been. The power delivery is nothing short of "stonking" and so so so noticeable in 3rd gear and above. Ok it will never match what I had in the RS4 but my partner reckons the Golf now out performs the stock S4 that I had before. Getting the power down is problematic so will have to investigate various suspension mods to help. Oh dear...I'm on that slippery slope!
I'll visit the RR next week and then post some before and after dyno charts.
Mihnea and Doug have done a fantastic job on this for me - well done lads!

So, I have been researching remapping for a few months now. It appears there are lots of new providers on the scene but I wanted to go to someone with a good reputation for the product they supply and also their customer service skills. I looked thoroughly through the remapping sticky post on this forum and after lots of thought, I decided to go with Simon from e-maps. (www.e-maps.co.uk).
The price was good (£375 all in) and for this price, Simon came to my office! I am based in East Sussex and Simon travelled down all the way from Birmingham.
After a quick cup of tea, Simon plugged in his laptop to check for any faults. A couple of minor errors came up (not related to the engine, they were in relation to the central locking and the indicator) but after checking there was no actual fault, Simon cleared them off the system.
We then went for a quick test drive with Simon checking out the data on his laptop. He wanted to check that the airflow meter was working correctly. So, quick drive down the road, give it full throttle in second gear and immediately Simon could tell that all was working correctly. My bog standard Golf Gti (08 plate, manual) was pushing out 205 BHP.
Back to base so that Simon could then download the original map onto his laptop, I went back into work totally excited and looking forward to seeing Simon again! About an hour later, Simon tells me all is done. Jump up, run out of office, go for test drive.
Gents, when I tell you that the difference in the car is awesome, it is an under estimation of the changes made. The car was quick before, now it is a totally different beast. It is quite simply amazing.
The same stretch of road in second gear and immediately, the BHP has increased to a mind blowing 262! Second gear is amazing. Third gear is frighteningly quick. Fourth gear takes me to another dimension and in all honesty, I don’t have the road space or bottle to go for it flat out in fifth and sixth at the moment!
The engine sounds how you expect a REALLY fast car to sound when you boot it. You just get pushed back into your seat like a rocket has been set off at the back of the car.
I can HIGHLY recommend Simon and his services. He is totally professional and a true gentleman. He has stated he would reverse the remap should I need it when I sell the car. The problem is, I am never going to want to sell it now!
I can’t wait to get out in my car now. It is so much fun. It makes me feel like a teenager again and I have been smiling all the way home (after taking the long way round)!
Happy days. Thanks Simon.

Just posted this in the R-Tech customers gallery, but thought I'd put it here for the benefit of other MK5 owners who don't venture out!
Model: 08 GTi TFSi, DSG
Remap: R-Tech Spec 1
Before: 209bhp, 215lb/ft
After: 246bhp, 289lb/ft
(http://i534.photobucket.com/albums/ee343/synchron1ze/IMG_0360-1.jpg)
Pro's and Cons:
Car is now something else, and doesn't seem to want to stop pulling
I've got this big grin I can't seem to remove from my face whenever I drive it!
No cons so far, but I reckon they will be in the form of requiring new brake pads and tyres in the not too distant future
NB The car is totally standard apart from the Map.
Nick and the other guys at R-tech offer a great honest service, and were all to happy to explain everything I needed to know.

^^^^^Just in case anyone is wondering, the graph is showing the Wheel HP and Wheel lbft :nerd:
Cheers
It does confuse people.
The graph plot is acutally whats happening on the dyno and is the reading from the tyre patch, the line at the bottom is actual drive train losses which can change depending on tyre temps, gear box fluids temps, bearing temps ect during the coast down.
Some other dynos add the peak trasmisison loss to the whole of the wheel hp reading. EG: If peak power is 200hp @ 5500rpm, and peak transmission loss is 60bhp @ 7000rpm then the final reading would be 260bhp @ 5500rpm, when infact if we follow the linear line back from 7000rpm to 5500rpm we will find the losses at 5500rpm are 38bhp which will make 238bhp @ 5500rpm.
Now you can see why some simlar coast down dynos give willy waving peak pub talk numbers.
The part of my dyno software is I have no control of the axis which dont make the correct visual 5252 cross over point on the plot.

State the car model - GTi (201bhp)
Gearbox - Manual (non dsg)
State Type of remap - Evolution Chips custom map
Before - w/ tbe, fmic, induction, forge dv (229.0bhp/246.4lbft) After - w/ aforementioned mods and custom map (298.9bhp/270.4lbft)
Pros - Smooth and linear power delivery, crazy acceleration, ridiculous top end mph and marginally better mpg.
Cons - Torque won't continue to surge beyond 4,000rpm, despite tightening of the wastegate rods. Was hoping for 300lbft+ (But I guess I won't be replacing the clutch as soon as I expected) I don't know whether or not it is a faulty N75?
_______
I was thoroughly impressed by R-Tech's torque figures on Synchronize's standard Gti. If I thought my car could handle an extra 30lbft without a Quaife diff or other dampening mods, then I would consider a new remap with them.
Ps. Check out my thread if you want before/after dyno plots....
