Hi guys, not had my 1997 mk3 golf gti 16v long,
Starts fine everytime, sometimes when pulling off, it can feel a little bit laboured when accelerating, as if its being slightly restricted somehow, just a bit jumpy.
Earlier it cutout after being a little bit jumpy as I was pulling off.
In a similar way it has cutout once or twice when its cold, or when i slow right down to a halt.
I am planning on giving it an oil change/spark plug service soon.
Would cleaning the throttle body help remedy this problem?
Any other thoughts on whats the matter?
Any help would be great, thanks!

In a word yes, cleaning the throttle body should make a diffrence, after that though id say its relay changin time, relay 167 and 30, ecu and fuel pump relays.

Yep, I changed the relays AND cleaned the throttle body, and mines like a different car, no longer a misfiring, cutting out pile of sh@t.....
well, it would be if the starter solenoid hadn't packed up in the petrol station today, Its amazing how much of a tw@t you feel pushing your car away from the pump

Thanks guys,
I'll be cleaning it asap then.
How much would it be to change the relays you mentioned?
Thanks

About £10 each from Volkswagen dealer, you can get them from GSF but they not genuine and they are about the same price !!

Vac hoses tend to fail too, get a metre of coloured (if you like) 4mm silicone vacuum hose off ebay for about a fiver which will replace all three. The rubber tends to desintegrate and you get air leaks. Very difficult to find and damage to them though as they have a sort of material lacing around them too so it's worth just replacing them all.

What 3 vacuum pipes would need replacing, sorry if i sound thick, i'm not mechanically minded. do u have a pic of engine bay to show which ones.

The 3 that you should change are:-
1).throttle body to ECU.
2).FPR (short blue one under intake manifold).
3).PCV to intake manifold (little vac hose near dipstick), although i didn't change mine.
