Title: What to do with a written off Golf
Post by: jamy99 on 12 February 2008, 21:39
Hello

My black 3 door '97 GTI 16v has recently been written off.

Can anyone recommend the best thing to do with it?

I am able to break it and then sell parts seperately, or is it best to try and sell it as is?

It has suffered side impact damage after being hit by a sprinter van, so most parts are salvageable.

The car was in excellent condition before the accident. The engine was sound (and still is). The interior is great nick, as are the wheels.

Is it worth my trouble to break it, or will I be able to recoup a decent amount from selling it whole?

Any advice and I would be very gratefull

Cheers

Jamie

sometimes you can make more money if u split it
but then u mite be sat for ages selling parts
if u don't mind and have space and time to split it then may aswell

if not try get the most u can for it, but will never be as much as u want

Break it and put some pics in the for sale section mate. Use the for sale section for guidance prices. You should get 500-600 for you engine, gearbox and wiring loom including ECU which you should probably sell as a buy it now on ebay. Put all trim pieces etc up for grabs on here and people will make you offers for various parts. Make sure you put where you live though as most people would prefer to collect parts

OK my Golf is now in a lot of pieces!

The drivers side door and front wing are knackered, but everything else is pretty much OK. I will probably put the bigger bits on ebay, but if anyone is interested in parts please let me know

Cheers
