The front grill mask is going to be body coloured instead of black!    According to the VW website.
In my opinion such a revision greatly cheapens the style of the Mk5 GTI/Ed30. I see an increase in aftermarket products such as the carbonfibre front mask!

Why are they doing that? :undecided:
-
i noticed that, but on further in on the site it showed the black again. so thought it was just a error. but ew. its ming.. im much happier with the black!!
-
The GTI really is turning into the GT!
Glad I have ordered mine in Black!

Hi Red Robin,
With all the links on this subject, I do believe the VW web & marketing departments have seriously screwed up.
I rang customer services today to confirm the Leather interior upgrades on the GTI (quoted NCO on web & at dealership) & they knew nothing about it, and were still quoting from the old prices.. ie “will cost you £1645 sirâ€Â.
Rubbish!!!!
-
that red GTI looks dreadful! The red GTI strip around the front grill is completely lost! Surely its got to be a website cock up!?

I agree... all it ends up doing is obscuring that subtle red GTI line.
Perhaps they're trying to gradually devalue the looks of the MkV GTI in order that the MKVI looks more appealing

so let us support them in doing this, since we already have our GTIs!

I wonder when that change takes effect?
-
It looks so...dull
-
I wonder when that change takes effect?
....Usually in the next new build - July production line this year but called "build 09".
Ordering now should be safe.
There's to be no Interlagos cloth any longer either - Only leather . So much for paying homage to the original GTI!! Feckers!!
-
Must be a mistake. When you build it, you can see they've take a 3D model of a base golf and applied a few GTi textures to it. The wheels look like 14s too. It's just a very poor web app, at least that's my thoughts. I doubt they'd change the grill. The seat cloth, perhaps given the new GTi probably won't appear for a while after the new Golf comes out, they've decided to stop ordering in bulk loads of fabric for the GTi Interlagos cloth, instead using leather - perhaps that works out cheaper in the short run. Use up all the old stuff before the new models appear.
-
soon the GT will be better than the GTI thanks to the monkeys at VW
-
got to be THE worst styling revision EVER!!!!!!!!

The more I look at the VW website, the more errors I see!
Like it says the GTI has foglights, but the Ed30 none.

also only 17's for the ED30

And when you click on 'Phaeton', a Vauxhall Chevette appears.
Really, those web designers need shooting
(Or was that a dream?)
-
Likely a mistake, the cartooney cars on the website look rubbish anyway. Nothing better than being old fashioned and going to dealer and getting a steal...or robbed. Whatever. Loving the interlagos in my GTI, never a fan of leather, although it would not put me off.
-
I too think its probably a mistake, its unlike VW to 'facelift' or change a car appearance like other manufaturers to try and make you buy a new one.
-
Well I think the facelift for the GTI is an excellent idea. It will put hundreds if not thousands on the residuals of all the GTI's and ED30's we already have
-
That looks absolutely terrible. Have forwarded the image to VW (South Africa not UK) and made a request as to what is happening with this.
I know its South African but it could help.
Mike

You guys also didnt notice that the headlights on the gti are standrad golf headlights.
Had that car been a GTi it would have darkened headlights and not silver headlights :nerd:
-
Hi Michael,
We’ve received your inquiry, unfortunately the information you require is not available on dealer level. I’m forwarding your questions to VWSA in order to assist.
Regards,

But vienna leather as standard is a good thing in my book!
People also need to stop jumping to (very wrong!) conclusions regarding the website. It's obvious that the people responsible have made lots of errors and I'm certain that in the next couple of weeks the details on the website will become far more accurate.

....Agreed, Steve .
But IF the leather-only info turns out to be correct, it's a bummer. I really wouldn't want a car with leather seats - Personally, I just don't like sitting on leather. What's wrong with maintaining the choice for people?

It is true. I was talking to my dealer yesterday (and today). My car fortunately missed the cut-off and is on it's way with Interlagos, but anything coming from about a week ago has leather. VW are discounting the non leather cars as a gesture of good faith, so my already great deal just got £1000 better.
VW are almost certainly clearing out old parts now before the new Golf is released, which makes financial sense to them, and leather, for most, is an incentive. In some ways I'm disappointed I won't get the leather.
-
Depends how many they make in this config before end of live for mkV , but if its a lot then ...
Interlagos may go up in value as it becomes rarer !
Its also devalues all the older cars that people specced leather as a high cost option in!
as its not 'special' if everyone and their dog has it.
-
Maybe they just want people to buy the Ed30 for the Interlagos - cunning strategy. Hence the recent decision to open orders for the Ed30 - w8nkers.
-
....Well, if I was ordering a GTI today it would definitely be the Ed30 anyway.
-
According to my local normally very reliable dealer, he says that ed30 is still limited numbers, and that order books have re-opened with the 1500 limit. so all u ed30 peeps can maybe stop getting Knickers in a twist.
Have you considered that they may have sold maybe 1000 cars and 500 are still left to be made?.Think about how long it takes to get a GTi, they dont run 20-30 a week in the production line. Im sure that they havent got to the Magic 1500 yet

Phil.. you're scaring me now. Are you clairvoyant or something? How do you know I wear knickers? Its a secret

The be all and end all of it is i don't think VW would open themselves up to such a blunder by stating for long enough they are limited edition, pricing them on that fact and selling them on the fact. Then simply removing the text from all their literature and reopening the order books. If they did well, i'd be more than happy to send a rather large petition to VW HQ and demand some sort of compensation for the fact we have been effectively conned

....Did you buy the Ed30 because of the car it is, or because you felt it would retain a higher resale value?
-
From the moment i saw the GTI on top gear and the ed30 on 5th gear with the ST i said that id have either of the 2. The focus was going out of production in november (as was the ED30 at that time) so it seemed a bit of a no brainer to go with the brand i felt i could trust more. (Plus i know people in the VW dealership)
Everything about the GTI and the extras of the ED30 attracted me, limited edition was just for the bragging factor. :P
I could've went for an r32 in a heartbeat but i go by what Jeremy Clarkson said a while ago "If you have doubts or dislikes about anything in a car, don't buy it" and there is many things i don't and couldn't grow to like about it.
Personally, i wouldnt have bought the car if i cared about residuals ive bought it to enjoy it. Be that 3 years, 5 years, until i write it off... only time will tell :D
As for the compensation comment, i wasn't meaning that as in the money we'd lose or anything (if any), simply for the fact that if you buy something thats exclusive and limited, pay the premium (which of course there is for the E30) and then be told "Hmm, nah we've changed our minds and want more money", i'd like to see something, be it money, accessories, cheaper discount on next car bought etc etc
"Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 traders must sell goods that are as described and of satisfactory quality.
If consumers discover that products do not meet these requirements they can reject them and ask for their money back providing they do so quickly. Alternatively, they can request a repair or replacement or claim compensation."
-
i dont think that they have sold all the 1500. Its just that many people have ended up buying in imports. Dealers included no doubt

....I feel exactly the same way . I was just curious about your reasons from your earlier comment.
