Help someone please...
Fitting my DEFI boost guage , I have fitted the boost line and the sensor in the engine bay. (sensor by the washer filler neck LHS of engine from front)
and the gauge inside the car but Im well and truly stumped as to where I run the cable through from the sensor to the guage.
Remember its a DEFI guage so its wires not a boost line that runs through.
Best (and only) possibility I can see so far is using the grommet that the bonnet release goes through.
What does everyone else use?
Im being really cautious as its very tight in the engine bay and I dont want to start any leaks !
All help appreciated.

people tell me theres a big grommet thought to the glovebox behind the battery, you need to take it out... iv not done this yet. tooo cold. so if you do!
TAKE PIXXXX PLEASEEEEE

aw bugger , then Ive routed the sensor to the wrong side (there was a nice spot for it on the washer bolt )
Wil have another look tommorrow , cheers Steve
12V was easy as there are 2 free fuse blocks that are switched lives in the fuse box.
So near and yet so far ......

good luck, if the bulkhead is good then i can go about my ice install. but i aint started as its too cold for me to be flapping about
remember pix!

I fitted a sensor for my road pilot a while back. The sensor sits behind my grill and links to the road pilot which sits in my ashtray.
If you search, there should be a couple of threads.
Mine involved me popping out a grommit, pushing the wire through, and then removing my glove box to be able to find it again! Its all detailed in that thread, but it was about 6 months ago!

Or through the pedal box

I threaded my laser unit cable through the grommet that sits behind the battery area. I did not need to take anything out except that thin foam sheet which sits underneath the glove box. All I did was poke a metal coat hanger wire from the inside and it came out near the side of the battery. Tape the cable to the coat hanger and pull it through very slowly.

couldnt get ne pix could you?

job done
As per the comments here , theres a useful grommet when you remove the foam from under the glovebox.
Coat hanger pushed through allowing me to thread the boost gauge cable.
Had to move the sensor to battery side though.
SteveS I did take a few poor phone pics for you , its really easy, Im so glad i asked here first!
Currently wired into switched live only and permanently dimmed mode as if the lights are on.
Not had a test drive yet, but pulled 22 mmHg at idle lol

nice one!
where is the grommet inside? i havent looked so not seen that, you didnt have to take anything out?
-
You say this gauge is electronic so doesnt have a boost pipe? Sorry :embarassed: Where do you connect it to ? I ask as I have a Forge DV and there was an option for a boost pipe feed if required.
You got a pic of the gauge?
Where abouts is switched live on these cars?

under the glovebox is a foam panel , 2 fixings and it easily removes , as soon as you get your head under its easy to see where the big cable feeds into bulkhead

The DEFI range have a short 'boost pipe' run from feed to a sensor (which you keep in engine bay) , then an electrical connection from the sensor to guage.
DEFI BLUE RACER 52 mm can be seen in my earlier thread

I didnt want to cut any wires , but handily there are spare switched fuse points on the upper row of the fuse box which is behind the side panel on the drivers side. I have 2 spare. And just use a fuse to hold the wires in.

There you go Steve
Pic 1 : in the engine bay , battery box on rhs , can see cable running thru bulkhead + the coathanger
Pic 2: in the passengers footwell , with foam under glovebox removed, shows coat hanger again lol
Pic 3 : boost sensor attached to air intake screw (will have to go elsewhere if I fit a carbonio!)
Pic 4 : shows the boost guage fitting kit I bought from forgemotorsport , made it much easier + 2 extra takeoffs if i need them.
Pic 5 : In car at night , I run gauge permanently in 'night' mode , as I find it too bright otherwise.

thanks a lot! i will take a look in my car now at the weekend!
the gauge looks lovely!!! how much?
-
Excellent, think I may go for this...
how long was the boost pipe to the controller - just thinking as mine will need to reach the DV where the boost take off is.

Was gonna do some at the weekend but I guess you dont need them now..

£40 for pod , £140 for the guage , quality costs!

Its up to you where you place the sensor in relation to the boost takeoff point.
Diff between ED30 (relocated DV to front of engine , virtually same place as I took feed from) and std GTI (DV at back)
Kept it short for response reasons , but this has to be balanced with a good place to mount sensor.
Im still not convinced my position is best tbh.
When I remap + get forge DV (which has the boost take off) , I may switch to taking my boost feed from there and returning OE pipe back to normal , then I could sell the forge boost fitting kit :-)

ok well i had a look today.
i took the foam bit off with the two thumb screws. i can see the fab cables going though,
looked in the engine bay and can kinda see where it comes out, however the gap is soo small. i have small hands so god knows how you managed it... for 0awg cable i have i think i need more space.
i tried poking some wirethough but it wouldnt go. i guess u had to push hard to make a hole though whatever is there??
