Title: Revs At Idle...
Post by: Ashmond on 11 February 2008, 15:54
What are the revs meant to be at idle and they are meant to stay there arent they? Because as of lunch time my revs fluctuate from 900rpm to just over a 1000rpm? Car is juddering slightly too, not loads but i can notice it, any suggestions?

mines at 850 so not sure if its the same for your petrol lads; don't it rev higher initially if its cold too? so it could be up as high as 1100 - 1200rpm for a minute or two  :undecided:

Yeah they do rev louder when cold but thats not what I mean it is just revving up and down at idle, hard to explain. Petrol head any ideas?

When its cold mine revs up to about 1200 for about a minute or two then settles down to about 950.
1.8t BTW

Could be dirty TB or iffy MAF / O2 sensor.  All these caused a blippy idle on my 1.8T (until they went proper tits up and it was a really rough idle).  Watch out for wildly fluctuating revs after slowing down for a roundabout junction too......

Mine does 1100 at cold and then 900 once its warm. If that helps . . .

i'd probably say its just to automatic choke causing the engine to run faster due to the cold.

If its only happening when cold I agree its nothing to worry about.....

Turns out that the pipe that comes off the inlet manifold on the right hand side was split, sorted now
