Title: Monza II's condition
Post by: pulp58 on 10 February 2008, 21:38
Hi

I am really careful washing my Monzas, wash them with a wool mitt and lots of soap, no wheel cleaners due to their finish. From day one I noticed they scratched quite easily but.........yesterday in the sunshine, I noticed my wheels had loads of swirl, marking, scratches etching.  The metal finish on the 18's is very very easy to mark. I am so carful with them, I wonder what sort of s**t state they would be in if I wasnt careful with them.

I thought I took good care of them, but they seem to be not very hard wearing at all. my car is 12 months old in 6 weeks and I worry what they will look like in another 12 months.

Are other peoples looking sorry in the sunshine or am I just being too precious with them. ?  (by the way, not in direct sunlight, they look amazing as always!)

Have you any photos ?

If they are only swirled, then they should polish up fine with a mild cutting polish and a machine polisher such as a Porter Cable or the new Meguiars G220    The wheels are lacquered, so it will only be the lacquer which has the fine swirls / scratches.

I bought a set of 18" Monzas on E-bay and they polished up fine, apart from the odd deeper scratch.

The main permanent damage reported a lot with the 18" Monzas is the dreaded milky worms

Heres a link on swirl removal (I know it's for paint, but it works on alloys too, especially the lacquered flat face of 18" Monzas)  :

No problem with mine at all - no scratches or dreaded worms (so far) - washed every week since new, Sept 06.

Not a scratch on ours....

But I use Prepsol cleaner and after leaving that on for a while I spray the rims down with a high pressure washer and then once they dry use a cotton cloth to just clean the remaining break dust. Works very well:

its more like fine scratches, only noticable under direct sunlight. Ive got a detailer coming in a couple of weeks, I might ask him to have a go with them

will post some pics tonight

NO NO!

Truck drivers.... Thin road. Stupid truck driver. Mommy swerved up a 5 inch pavement to avoid a head on with the truck... Wrote off two Monza rims and a tyre.....

Lol......

Life sucks eh?
