Can anyone help ?
Got a '90 MKII, everything is working fine 'cept the horn.
Have removed it and put it against a battery works ok - it did die in the end ;)
Bought a replacment horn, still no luck. Fuse is good. Have checked the wiring loom and all seems OK. The lights and snything else that goes through the same ducting are OK.
Have taken the cover off the steering wheel and can't find anything wrong there.
It's doing me head in. ::)

Has the Horn got a good 'earth' to the body of the car? If it is rusty or painted or generally dirty it might not be earthed and therefore will not work.

Are the fixings used for the earthing ?
There are two wires wrapped in a sleeve that run behind the lhs headlight and attach to a connection, but no direct earth cable.
Tested that cable direct to the battery and it is working ok. Gave my girlfriends dad a minor coronary ::) ;D

Mine did this. I still haven't a clue what is causing it. I just rewired it to a new switch on the dashboard ;) - I was in a rush, as it failed its MOT because of the horn.
The garage said that a switch on the dashboard is fine, and they have done it a lot on Mark 2's, as they are prone to it! ??? Even they couldn't find the fault on any they have worked on!

One thing to check is the metal leaf spring on the indicator switch that comes into contact with a metal ring on the wheel. These often get gummed up with all kinds of crap and prevent the horn from working, and sometimes they fall off/break.
Look at the bottom of the steering column between the wheel and ignition shroud, you should be able to see it there. get something pointy and clean out the crap stuck there and give it another go!
Also try removing the centre cover for the steering wheel and make sure both wires are connected to the push horn, and also try touching them together when the ignition is on to see if its your push horn that is the problem.

Cheers for the replies. Have tried these suggestions. Even managed to stab myself in the fecking finger !!
Cleaned the contacts, still not working. Thing the problem is somewhere in the wiring loom. :(

Damn don't envy you! Rather than messing about trying to find a broken wire in the loom, why not just connect a new wire to the indicator stalk thru the bulkhead. You can get a good price on wire from http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/ (http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/), then just find the horn live wire on your indicator plug and crimp a spade on it.
Bit of a b!tch tho! Alternatively you could trace the wiring in your engine bay and simply replace that section and hope the break isn't in the dash somewhere...

I am assuming you have used a circuit tester to see if power is going to the horn ? do same with earth ? If one there and not other.............. Soz if mentioned above but could not be assed to read that lot ;D.

I'm sure I've seen this posted elsewhere.
Take the horn off, check the contact ring underneath with a circuit tester. You've checked the horn on the battery and it works. Check the wiring at the horn, you may have power but not enough to sound the horn.
Also I am pretty sure that the circuit is live all the way down to the horn with ignition on and earths out through the steering wheel push.

Did you sort this out?
Only I ask cause I had a similar problem, but found out my horn had two fuses, it was a dual tone horn, but if either of the fuses are gone, then neither horn works.

Still haven't sorted this out, but haven't really had a chance to be honest. A friend of me girlfriends dad had a quick look, says that I appear to be missing a relay!!
Just popped to the local auto shop, they haven't got any relays in stock so have to try the other place tomorrow.
Here's hoping. Plus am now finally insured. Taking baby out for spin tomorrow. ;D
