Title: winding back caliper piston without the propper tool?
Post by: kells on 10 February 2008, 18:02
any good ways?

on all my other cars it was/is a simple job of easing it back in with a large screwdriver, golfs have the wind back type so need a tool, i have tried my cir clip tool before anyone mentions this and its a no no...

any other ideas?

its the rear caliper btw

also had the nightmare of my locking wheel nut snap so i couldnt remove my wheels, bloody nightmare but a key off my other car amazingly fittted !!! (after been told by almost every tyre place they couldnt do it and one place wanted 45 notes)

anyhow, any ideas anyone re the piston??

i tryed loads off ways and it wouldnt go back -so i bought the tool £15 from the local motor factors.you could always make one ,big bolt with a larger rectangle plate  (flat) held on with a nut and bolt. cut a 6mm drill bit (the round part)in to 2 pieces and weld them onto another plate(round) just an idea

lol yea then you loosen the nipple get fluid every were and the swearing stops !

joking aside its easer to take of the rear off discs remount the caliper and bracket and use a spanner or socket to aid you .
