Title: rear door speakers in mk3

hi allive just got a mk3 gti the front speakers have been uprated already but th ebacks had not so i decided to take a look at changing them it has 2 wires to each terminal,i went to connect the new speakers and they didnt work but the old standard ones did.and the other thing is when i fade the sound to the middle or to rear speakers the front ones distort and crakle.so i have to have it faded all to the front.any ideas what the problem could be thanks.oh sorry for the long post.

Are the new rears of the correct impedance?  Should be 4 ohms I'd have thought.
