Title: What have you done to your motor?
Post by: Pete Taylor on 10 February 2008, 13:13
Little bored..

Sat at work on a sunday on a 12 hour shift...

So I thought i'd compile a list of what has been done to my car since I owned it!

I bought the car a few days before christmas in 2006 (about 14 months ago) after searching specifically for a red 3dr mk3 valver. It took me about 4 months to find and it was my first ever car. I found this on Ebay...

The car wasn't that far away from me so I went and had a look at it. It was faaaaaar too much work for my first car and I walked away from it especially as he wanted £1200. A week or so later after the auction had finished and the car didnt sell, the guy rang me up. He was selling it for his mum and was desperate for cash just before christmas. I told him I wouldnt pay any more than £800. In the end I haggled, and through his desperation, I got it on the 22nd of December 2006 for £865, with a full tank of fuel delivered to my house.

This is what i've done to the car in 14 months (things that I can remember anyway)..

All in no particular order! I estimate the cost of all that to be several billion pounds!

This is a pic that was taken about 4 months ago (had some of the list done to it since this pic was taken)

You can see the chrome rings on the heater knobs in this pic along with the mk4 gear knob, custom made embroided "GTi 16V" gaiter, leather VR6 handbrake, Recaro colour concept interior and the chrome door pulls. Red mats weren't in on this pic. The chrome knobs look gash

Just browsing the forum and thought I'd add to this.  I have a build thread on here, but wanted to see the list of work carried out on here for myself if nothing else.

Bought the car with 12 months MOT and 6 months tax.

Bought and fitted coilovers on all four corners
Black grill badge
Back to black plastic treatment
Crystal clear indicators and fogs for the front
Crystal clear side repeaters
Lamin-X red tint for rear lights
New Gear knob (although will be changing this again soon)
Wolfsburg heater dials
Aftermarket Pioneer headunit
New Platinum spark plugs
Oil Filter change
Oil change
K&N panel filter (Going to drill out the airbox soon enough too)

Over the next week or two:
New custom stainless exhaust system
Black Vinyl Wrap roof
Better CD player with iPod function
Uprated speakers in all the doors
Leather (maybe heated) interior
Black headliner
Custom dials
Replace all the green interior lights with another colour
Banded Steels.

Haven't done too much to it, but as the car had been owned by a VW employee all of its life and had been looked after there isn't too much to do.  I need to replace a wing mirror at some point and also find a bit of trim that is missing, but it's doing really very well.

oh so much....  Very tidy red mk3 8v (AGG) purchased 2 years ago @ Easter.  In vaguely chronological order:

Nice Sony MP3 stereo
plugs, wires, dizzy arm & cap
CTS, IAT
O2 sensor
Oil temp sensor in the block
New front wings (rusty)
removed the toad alarm :-)
New exhaust back box
New crank sensor
New door lock (drivers) and OS passengers
Cambelt and tensioner
oil & filter change
two engine mounts (gearbox and front)
new central locking pump
added headlight levelers (previous owner had changed to mk4 style, and not kept the adjusters...  Why?)

I think thats it.  Generally happy with it - and it looks great.

Oh, and much cleaning and polishing
