Rather than hijack another thread I thought it best to start an new one on these tyres.
hufcforpromotion has them on his new Ed30 but it's early days for a review. I had the chance of trying them out on my own GTI at Bruntingthorpe last year but didn't have time - I wish I had made time now! They have a very unusual tread pattern, slightly reminiscent of the excellent Goodyear F1's (non assymetric).

Here is some info I have found:
Ultra-High Performance Radial
The Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta is the newest ace in the Ultra High Performance (UHP) segment. The Sessanta is based on the strong points of the Ultrac series and has been optimised even further to give very good steering and handling characteristics. Giugiaro Design has given the Ultrac Sessanta an innovative design, with a line pattern that clearly shows that performance comes first.
Parametric design - from the drawing board to the shelf. The Ultrac Sessanta is designed parametrically. This means that the tread construction, shape and contours are optimised for every size using mathematical formulae based on design parameters. Each size of the Ultrac Sessanta therefore offers maximum design quality.
Our Design Centre uses its enormous creativity to design treads. Co-operation with third parties offers a constant stream of fresh impulses. The partnership with the Italian Company Giugiaro Design for the development of the Sportrac serves as a shining example.
The name Sessanta refers to the sixty years of Vredestein's existence in Enschede. In tribute to Vredestein's unique collaborative partnership with Giugiaro Design, "sixty" will be written in Italian: sessanta.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
- Innovative design and sophisticated line pattern give excellent performance and unique appearance.
- Handling Tuned Tread Compound (HTTC) Gives extremely high tracking power, allowing faster cornering and measured correction of the car is possible on bends.
- HTS+ (Handling Tuned Sidewall) principle with robust outer shoulders and sturdy sidewalls allows a very direct steering feel Optimal contact with the road surface.
- Two rayon carcass layers make the tyre stable and sturdy during handling. Maximum resistance to lateral forces, and stays more controllable in the most critical situations.
- Treadwear - 280 Traction - AA Temperature - A
They should be fitted as shown and so that the text "INNER SIDE" on the tyre wall is not visible when on the car. They are an "Assymetric" treaded tyre.

....So, no probs in the wet?
They're supposed to be pretty good in the wet too, leaving other tyres "in their wake " according to EVO
Coming a highly comendable 2nd place in this years EVO tyre tests scoring an overall 95.3%, the Ultrac Sessanta was the choice of both EVO testers, Jethro Bovingdon and John Barker, on the road being praised for their absorbent, quiet ride and smooth, nicely detailed steering.
From EVO's wet handling test
'it was the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta that proved the tester's favourite. "Superb," said Bovingdon. "Heavy steering but backed up by strong turn-in and the ability to give more bite if you need it. Very good traction"'
From EVO's aquaplane testing
'In the straight line test, the majority of the tyres are within 5% of the Dunlop's performance, but on the wetted curve the spread is much higher, though this is largely due to an exceptional performance from the Vredestein. A star performer in the wet handling tests, the 'Giugiaro Design' Ultrac Sessanta leaves the rest in it's wake, the Bridgestone being the best of the rest some 17% down."

....Thanks, JonnyG - Very useful and interesting info .

....Can you confirm that they are fitted as in the pics in this thread - The guys over on Tyresmoke aren't believing it!!

Red...you seem quite interested in these tyres...are you planning on investing some money on new tyres?? I wonder what tyres my R will come with

....I'm interested in these Sessantas when my Goodyear F1's wear out .

Do these come in 15" flavour for us retro gti-ers?

....Only 17's to 20's, Nick.
The Goodyear Assymetrics also did equally well in the EVO mag tests and might fit 15's - I don't know.
-
Bummer! Luckily I'm all good for tread at the moment, think it'll have to be some yokies next time round.

OK, EDIT sorry they are fitted like the diagram. They are fitted like this guy posted over on TSN - the deep tread is on the inside of each wheel as below.
So either all our tyres are fitted wrong or the we cant make sense of that diagram! Odd, i look forward to the email from them
-
But It looks to me that this diagram and the black GTI photo and also this image from the Vredestein website, all match.
I'm waiting for an email from Vredestein's technical department - apparently they get lots of phone calls querying the tread application.

The photos are right. Otherwise they would have to make tyres for the RHS and LHS with different tread patterns. I had MICHELIN Primacy on my Mkiv and they were assymetric too. It did look strange at first with tread pattern running in opposite directions.
I once had some tyres fitted to and the fitters fitted one side with the "outside" face on the inside so that the treads matched
Went straight back and got them changed. "Sorry mate they looked right that way round".
I had Goodyear Eagle NCTs fitted to my MkII, what a sexy tread pattern they were. If a tread pattern can be sexy? ( I really must get out more :embarassed:)
-
i guarantee you will go round roundabouts faster with these tyres fitted...
am sticking some on the csl first chance i get.
they are the nuts.
-
....Good to read some real-world user-feedback, Jonathon

I changed my above post and yes I dunno what I was thinkin lol but they do match. They are fitted as detailed in the diagram and as matching the GTI in the pic.

Im looking forward to getting some new tires for the R and would consider the Vredestein as they seem to have great reviews. Ony problem is I am now on 7500 miles and my tires are still looking like new!!
I just dont get it??? I razz the danglies off mine but it seems they are just really hard wearing. Good for another 10k atleast i would say!!
dunlops sport maxx incase you were wondering. How many miles can you expect from the tires on your gti's??

Thats amazing R32, i would have thought the R would go through tyres quite quickly.GTI front tyres are nearly gubbed by 7500miles

My dunlops have done 24000 miles on my Ed30 and still show no real sign of wear, granted they are mostly motorway miles but still!! I shall certainly be replacing like for like. Any minor performance drawbacks are more than outweighed by longevity!
-
I expected tyres on my R to last longer than the GTI - i get little to no wheel spin due to the 4motion so I think thats why they last a bit longer. FWD high powered cars tend to scrub the tyres more for grip. So I guess depending on your driving style this will equate to more or less miles on your tyres
I drive my R often to the limit and got 17k miles from the factory tyres supplied from new.
-
17k thats brilliant!! I think I can expect the same from these... and thats probably without switching them round either. The 4motion really does mean no wheels spin, so i guess thats why they go for so long. The dunlops although have been slagged off quite a bit really do come into their own when it comes to the wet, and even more so with longevity it seems :smug:
-
My first R32 MKV i did 10500 miles of very"spirited" driving and honestly they were as good as new when i sold her(conti sport contact 2,s)
Second R32 4000 miles on michelin exaltos still brand new, and 3500 miles on falkens still brand new.Even the edges dont seem to wear when you are giving it big licks round bends.
The benefits of 4WD eh??
-
I have toyo proxes all round, i need the front 2 replacing, would it be okay to go for the Vredestein on the front and leave the back ones to toyo? or should i change all four?
plenty of life left in the back....
-
of course - As long as same axle has same tyres no worries
i would never have different - not illegal in uk but not good
-
I don't post much but read every post  Thought i'd add my 2peneth.
I fitted 4 of the Vred only 4 weeks ago, previous tyre was a Michelin Exalto, which served the car for 23k. The difference in grip level was massive as immediately noticable, no more wheelspin if i set off a little more spirited than normal and I've found myself pushing into those corners a lot quicker than before. So much so the missus doesn't like it anymore .
Not sure how they compare to your GY's Robin but they are certainly a step up in the grip depertment over the other tyre's i've had fitted (including the Dunlops someone mentioned above).
What i will say is... they do need to be set to a high PSI. I had them fitted by a Vred franchise in Huddersfield they set the pressure to 37 psi. I've read a few posts here and on the other forum about Vred recommending higher. It's certainly true i found at 37 psi the tyre roll affected performance, car was very twitchy under hard braking. I've set them to 41-42psi at the moment and that's improved things but i continue to monitor (as you do).
Overall a fantactic tyre and i can vouch for wet weather grip as well ;-), Terrantial downpour last week and i noticed no real drop in grip.
-
Yep, I too have had the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas on my car and the grip was very good and the wear rate was decent, but not particularly outstanding. For the money they are the best tyre out there
-
^^^
x2 Great value
-
Hurdy do recall what pressures you ran by any chance ?
Front and Back if you can remember :P

32psi all round for me
-
I run Vred's currently at 40 psi
-
38-40psi front and rear. Depending on load.
-
I'm up for new tyres soon. After reading this I'm going to give the Vred's a go. The tyre tread looks like a work of art
p.s. got dunlop sports factory fitted on mine currently and they have lasted really well (mainly motorway miles though).
-
I'd be interested in peeps opinions on these vs Eagle F1.

I've got GY F1s on my BMW 530i and Sessantas on the Golf. Find the Sessantas can scrabble sometimes for grip (in the wet) but they give good feedback. I do find them a little noisy though.
The GYs I find excellent and prefer them to the Sessantas but I am comparing them on two different cars. When either wear out, I'll be trying Uniroyal Rainsport 2s
