Title: Has anyone got an installed K&N induction kit?
Post by: SuperSaiyan4 on 10 February 2008, 09:41
Hi all if anyone has one installed on a Golf GTi 2.0 16v would it be possible to see a picture please of how you have it installed? Just want to make sure when I get mine installed it is the right one and to get an idea how its placed.

I assume the existing air intake pipe on the car stays? And the plastic one in the box goes on the end of it? Cos its short.

That long thin pipe that runs from the throttle body alongside the rubber trunking shouldn't be there. You should get a small rubber cap that goes over the nipple on the throttle body to block it off

Don't spose anybody knows the part number or has a spare they wanna sell, the bit I'm after is the plastic cover bit over the manifold intake wiv the grooves in for the HT leads to sit in. Not sure of the correct name for it

Ok just had a look at the pics so that means I only need that short metal or plastic pipe thing? Not that longish plastic pipe? What about all the bits? It looks like its really easy just to slap that induction kit on but all the bits in the box and instructions make it look like its some serious work!

So all I need is that short bit as per the pics and the 2 silver clips and the rubber bit for the cold intake?

Did you feel as if it had any more power though? I do like a bit of noise hehehe I mean it helps if you have a decent sized engine and brand in the first place like a 2litre 16v GTi instead of a 1.2 Clio or Vauxhall Corse *shudders*

Mines only the 8v, to be hoenst, it doesnt feel any more powerful, but say you stick in 2nd and floor it too 60, over 3000 rpm it soudns awesome, then change to 3rd and do the same to 80/90/100 it sounds awesome. But then again, i drive like a nob.

But as for performance, really is no difference, few bhp extra maybe, but not noticable.

Ok fair dues, the thing is you see many people with a backbox with loads of noise from their car but it goes nowhere fast which is a joke.
I aint the one looking for tons of noise but wasnt expecting an induction kit to sound like a supercharger lol.

Well looks like I will have a go on the weekend.

Just want to confirm something though, see all the bits you got in the box? From the pics I take it you only used the 2 silver clips, short metal pipe which goes into cone and the other end into air intake on existing engine and the rubber pipe?

The rest of the stuff like longish plastic pipe and all them bits are useless?

Pretty much dumbs it down with less peices, yeah. And it does sound far better, only makes the noise when your drive it hard. Far better than a backbox that BURRRS at idle. Athough im guna get one haha.

It dumbs it down?? So what I need to use ALL the  bits that come with it then?

Anyone here installed one fully? Need to get an idea on how it all goes.

Seriously, its dead simple, you just bolt off, bolt on, its pretty self explanitory by looking at it! Plus there are instructions in the box :P

Lol I tried to take off my airbox and got stuck couldnt get the damn thing out so put it back will get a mechanic to do it instead.

I got 2 sets of air pipes it seems coming from the airbox and then 2 leads attached to the side of it, since the induction kit only has 1 pipe going to it what do I do with the other pipes coming off from insides near the engine??

Ive got a mk3 gti 16v, with one fitted by a mechanic before I bought the car,

It doesnt seem to make any difference, tiny bit louder, but not good loud...

It seems to be making my engine run crap and havingproblems idling.

The VW specialists told me to take it off and put an original on...

I wanted a bit more noise and power lol.
you wont get anymore power matey, only enclosed kits do that(and thats minimal)
to be honest they're ok when it's cold but in summer they loose sooooooooo much power due to heatsoak it's untrue :(
forget the noise and go for a panel filter if you want more throttle response ;)

In the airbox in place of the standard air filter

Ah ok. I aint all clued up on cars its not my forte of knowledge.

Was wondering if you could tell me about them 2 pipes and 2 leads please? The cone takes one pipe from the engine I take it the other is a breather pipe? Where will that go? And also the 2 leads on the side of the box very thing wire looking ones, 1 is brown and 1 is black.
