Title: Heated seats
Post by: Burnsy on 31 March 2004, 12:16
Ive got 2 rotating switch's to the left of my steering wheel with a seat symbol on it .When turning them i can hear a relay/fuse click which seems to me somthing is turning on but i dont see any lights illuminate to tell me if the heated seat facility is working or not.
Should something illuminate or should the seats just get warm and if so how long do they take to warm up ?
Thank in Advance guys and gals

no lights, just warming seats.

Don't know how long it takes as i haven't got mine yet, but i think it's a bit gradual.

Apparently they are not very robust and frequently fail, although this is just hearsay.

When i test drove my vr6 the drivers seat had been on no. 5 for a while and when i sat in it, it was uncomfortably warm.  I was beggining to wonder if i had wet myself.

Yeah, there is no light, you'll just have to wait 5 mins until the whole seat is fully warmed up, you'll defo feel it if they're working, but setting 5 is too warm.

midwinter 5 is ok, i dropped to 3 a month or so ago, now i leave it off a lot of the time.

when checking if they're working i find the lower back bit heats up faster than the bottom bit..

the time it take to heat up, the leather has warmed itself up with body heat, not much use in winter when it's freezing unless you turn it on before you plan to set off.

For an N reg mine are in perfect condition, don't know what the previous owner used on them but i just wipe them down with a damp cloth.

Shorts and leather seats don't mix, experienced it today on the way to the supermarket, i was stuck to the seat by the time i arrived.

The sun will in fact dry out the leather and can cause it to crack! :o Go to a good quality leather shop and get some leather cream. I got some Connolly cream in a pot for about a fiver 4 years ago (still using it now!!-lasts ages) and just wipe that in.Leave overnight and job done!!! 8)

my last car with leather (black) also had no air con and was a bit of a sticky sweaty nightmare in summer.

I found shorts ok, it was by back that got the hottest.

I kept the leather in good condition with auto glym leather cream.  Sound similar to N-Wales-vr6's connolly cream.  Got to take care of it in summer, sun is the bain of a leather interior's life.
