Also worth noting tho that the basic price has gone from 19995 to 20850.
-
so basically you pay 1/2 for the leather and get a free armrest
-
Only if you pay the full asking price
-
I am very confussed, looks like the leather is still an option according to the link below.

Haven't got a build day yet so I guess I will wait and see what interior the car turns up with!
-
Looks like if you want leather its a free upgrade.
-
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/golf-gti/configure/299/interior-upholstery/ RECAROS for £925
-
would prefere not to have leather!! the std seats are well more sporty and the leather is cheap and poor quality compared to other cars i have been in.

Hi guys,
I love forums don’t you. Been closely following the thread on the MKIV forum.
You’re all bang on the money. The standard GTI now comes with free Vienna leather and front armrest all for NO extra cash. The extras add up to a sizeable £1765. The current price of the GTI is £20,815 and has been since 1.1.08. The 2008 price list was increased by 1% over the 2007 Autumn price list.
This extra incentive was announced by VWUK on Thursday/Friday last week, to obviously try and shift more GTI’s.
So if you’ve recently ordered a 2008 GTI, then you should talk to your dealer for some kind of extra discount/allowance.
I’ve got an ED30 on order and have indicated my displeasure to my dealer. I’ve asked them to discuss with VWUK and find out if they want to keep my business. The way I see it is, the GTI is now closer in spec to the ED30, which it turn makes the ED30 seem overpriced and less desirable. The ED30 now gets the front armrest as standard (£120) so we’ll see what happens next.
I‘d advise a firm, but polite, discussion with your dealer.
Good luck... Hotrod

VW told me this morning that it's a mistake and the arm rest is not free and I still have to pay for it. I was told I get the leather for free though
-
Just off the phone with my dealer. He said if my car comes with leather then cool. If it doesn't then he'll give me a £1000 discount. :D

As a father of one, soon to be two, I opted for the GTi as it was a fairly affordable and practical sports hatch - on comparison to the WRX I had prior to my A4 1.9TDi. Adding mods would ruin that sensible, cheap to run car. :)
I am hoping for the cash rather than the seats, I think. But if it's got the seats I'll be equally happy.
