Removed some belts however they have retracted and refuse to open. is this a common problem and are there any ways i can fix this. Any suggestions would be a great help
-
ahhh i had this problem before! its not actually a problem, i had to destroy on to find out how they work!
ok basically there is a little ball inside them which moves and locks into place in a certain position (ever notcied the belts lock up if trying to reach the glove box whilst going round a corner (as a passenger of course)?) so to get the belt out you need to actually fix them into the car and then they wil pop straight out..obviously making sure you've got the handing correct..
that should do it

ahh i see N1 cheers
-
that is true! i once managed to break one of jv's trying to get it to pull out again!
-
hold it in the position it was made to be hung or mounted in and the 'little ball' will allow it release, although do pull softly and smoothly, I think they work like this as a safety mech incase of an accident or something, if you know what i mean.
-
the beauty of fourms! shame i didnt look before i broke mine lol!
-
pah! who needs seatbelts anyways! i personally prefer to die when i crash, much more satisfying!
-
GRRRRRRRRRRR! if i had read this 2hrs ago id be laughing!
ive got a frayed rear belt...... scavenged a replacement from the scrappy and couldnt get the sucker to unravel! ended up breaking it whilst taking it apart! the spring inside pinged off and nearly had my eye out!
-
yeh they are truely unfixable, that spring is a b!tch to refit lol lol
-
i robbed both left and right rear belts at the scrappy. its only the left that needed replacing........so will the right hand one fit the left? or are they handed? i thought you could fit either or but they have L & R stickers on em
-
nah you can't use them on different sides as far as i remember..have you tried already i take it?
-
yeah tried today and the belt wont unwind! GRRR! back to the scrappy tomorrow as i need a belt for the pending MOT!
checked the old belts part numbers and they are differant so that confirms it.
-
yeh a bit sh!te only being able to use them on one side but i suppose its all safety...
-
this thread has made me chuckle. i can remember the panic i had the first time i tried to refit a seatbelt!! i think its something every car nut should go through. a rite of passage!
-
haha well now ive done my time!
been to the scrappy today to ponce another belt and there were only 2 mk2s down there. one with a missing left hand rear belt and the other had its left hand rear belt cut!
GRRRR this is annoying me! gonna have to lift the one out of my mates mk2 b4 the MOT me thinks as im not paying £50 odd for a brand new one
-
you dont technically need seat belts for an mot. it'll just be written that no seat belt fitted at time of mot. if you take the seat out and say you dnt need it for work then it wont fail. i had no rear belts on my mot and they didnt say jack as there was no seats
-
its blatently gonna be less hassle to borrow another seatbelt though than take the seat out init... just bought some one on ebay anyway hopefully turn up 1st
