The GTI goes in tomorrow for free trial of revo stage 1.(260bhp) .the map lasts 5hrs then goes back to standard, then i will try the giac remap (250).After trying the two maps i will decide which one is best for me,also the guy doing the revo map says there's no need to change the D.V. what do you think on this.
-
have fun and i didnt have any problems with the dv for about 5000 miles, then a forge one came along cheap so i stuck it on  took 4 1/2 hours though
-
keep us posted on what you think!
-
4 1/2 hours labour plus £156 for d.v. = £270 approx is it worth it.
-
i did it myself!! thats why it took me 4 and a half hours  i had to work under the car lying down as i didnt have access to a ramp!!

Hurdy says you need hands like Jerermy Beadle to fit it.

I haven't changed mine (was strongly considering it at one point), and have had no problems with the stock valve (ED30 running Bluefin for 7k). If it does go I believe they are cheap to replace anyway. Not sure it is worth it IMO. Can't see much benefit if its just a 'precaution'. Just my opinion though!

Harsh but..

harsh but very very very true!!!!

I fitted the valve that Joe now has on my regular GTi, and although I wouldn't say its easy it isn't really to bad. I did it on axle stands to get the extra room. Saying that I fix planes for a living and we do lots of fiddly jobs so maybe I'm comparing it with that

Although you may get lucky and not need a Forge DV on a remapped car, the stock DV could go at any time. I personally know someone who has been through 3 before the Forge DV was available. It's a known issue and VW have already revised it 3 times but not substantially enough! The plastic can split/break under boost.
-
I wonder how much of this is due to the location of the DV on the regular GTi, as its bolted directly to the turbo its in an extremely hot location which as we know doesn't do plastic and rubber much good.
On the ED30 the DV is mounted remotely at the front of the engine in a much cooler place, I've done 4000 remapped miles now with no issues on the standard DV, probably shouldn't have said that it'll go pop 2 morra
-
The Forge DV is a relatively cheap fit and forget modification, so for me it's a no brainer
The bonus is that it is a piston type and so will not go pop!

....Sure, it's proximity to hot turbo location won't help but the tears have been reported as due to the higher boost levels.

Its GIAC for me hopefully getting booked in for Feb19th got myself a good deal me thinks, I may get the Forge fitted too although not 100% sure now.

I didn't know that GIAC did a trai their website does not mention it. I was going to go with either Revo or APR beacuse they are the only ones that have a free trials or so I thought, but if GIAC do one as well then I'll give them a shot.

The gti got the revo 5hr trial today, the guy doing it said the trial is about 250bhp and if you went for the full map it would be more like 260bhp.driving from standstill the car struggles to put the power down spinning in 1st,2nd and into 3rd gear, its only when you get into 3rd gear you really notice the difference the gti just pulls like a f4ckin train, then into 4th and 5th it still pulls hard.I dont think the cars any faster than a standard gti up to 40mph but once it gets the power down its a very rapid car.The power delivery feels like the standard car but with more surge, but still very smooth. Because the revo maps power curve is very similar to the standard car i will get this done next week and speak to the guy about a suspension and brake upgrade.its all about money, money and more money

Yes, but standard cars have had DV problems, what I'm saying is the heat must have an affect on the rubber and plastic of the DV valve making it brittle and less flexible causing it to tear, then if you throw higher boost in goodnight DV

StevieC is yours a Reg GTi or an ED30?

....I always switch my Revo to Stock before a servicing session and drive the 17 miles there - Always seem slow for the overtakes .
-
R.R do you think your better getting the switch box for revo. Dont think you get this with stage 1 remap.

....I think I bought my switch box as an inexpensive extra option. Definitely worth it for the anti-theft (engine disabled even with the key) and the ability to switch to stock for dealer servicing - Not as a secret but so not to confuse any ECU update via the VW dealer.

Stevie C you not even bothering with the GIAC trial map. I take itthe REVO trial has sold you??

Rob i'm going to go with the revo map,was very impressed with the power delivery it was very smooth, similar to standard gti but with more surge.Hardly any turbo lag.
