Title: Dashboard lights
Post by: Burnsy on 30 March 2004, 22:24
Is it easy to replace non working dashboard lights i.e on the speedo
And what does it mean when the airbag light stays illuminated to the right of the steering wheel ?

I dont know about the dashboard , but the airbag light staying on indicates that there is a fault in the airbag system.

This probably means that it will not function

Its gonna cost you im afraid . You need to get a diagnosis check on it . This can be done either by VW or if you have the software and cable VAG-COM .

I just tapped the top of the dash above it :D

i believe you can replace -some- lights (the lower row) in the dash console by removing the assembly wiuth the speedo/rev counter etc in.
some may be part of the unit, i'm not sure.

i did it on my '96 polo once when the handbrake light went.

its a bit fiddly, i hate taking the dash apart. I believe you also have to be careful of things like the airbag, haynes probably has a good guide in it.

i cant remember what the bulbs are called, they're funny lil twist in ones.

if you can find a guide to replacing them with blue leds it'll also show you how to get the unit out.
