DRL's are passive rather than active illumination ... they point towards other drivers without blinding them

low beam point towards the ground and illuminates the path in front of you

I must say you dont here of many accidents happening in the daytime because "i didnt see the person in front of me"

To be fair my car is a big bright red object with a loud exhaust, if they miss that, then a few LEDs wont help lol.

On the other hand they do look realy cool!  but i think thats as far as it goes realy.  its just an excuse to drive about with ur fog lights on but without being laughed at

this picture doesn't show it up too well but they do make sense...

shows no lights, low beam and then drl's in a 'low light' situation

TBH, you can see the car fine, and if it gets dull, u turn on teh side lights, if you cant see the car, you shouldnt drive, or turn on ur lights, its something that they added to expensive cars, but cheap cars dont have them, as you DONT need them.
Title: Re: LED daytime driving lights
Post by: Guy on 07 February 2008, 23:52
side lights aren't meant to be driven with (although everyone does)

and most people won't turn on and off their lights when it gets dull or when they are going through a poorly lit/shady bit of road as pictured above... drl's are on all the time that your car is running and that your main beam or side lights/parking lights aren't on

driving with lights on during daylight is mandatory in all scandanavian countries and I think poland and italy now
Title: Re: LED daytime driving lights
Post by: Dec on 07 February 2008, 23:53
Ive been driving with my lights on lately as so many dickheads on the road keep pulling out on me. Also I have xenons so they look cool
Title: Re: LED daytime driving lights
Post by: kells on 07 February 2008, 23:55
lets all be honest.. they are their to look cool and that is it.. or in some cases their to make u look a chav

the audi's look absolutly awesome and nobody can say they dont, just as the BMW's did when they first introduced the halo head lamps, now every chav has angel eye headlights

as said before...use your sidelights if visibility is reduced at all...

the only other good thing about them i guess is the fact they draw less power than your sidelights with them been LED..

then again, u may as well do the xenon upgrade like i have instead, uses less than half the power of your crappy halogen bulbs....

it comes down to a personal thing, i love the audi's....but i wouldnt bother retro fitting them instead of my fog lights as i prefere a OE look, just my personal taste

AMEN kells.

Well done dec.

And they are mandatory in stupid countries. lol. With sprawling moutains, forests, etc, not a bustilin country like england. If they were needed, all cars would have them.

Post by: kells on 08 February 2008, 00:01
my mate had a old volvo 240 once....everyone knows volvos have their lights turned on all the time and they aint no drl, they are just the normal side lights, we wired them up so they wernt on all the time   other volvo owners used to ask him all the time how he managed to switch off his lights hahahahahahahaha...what a sh!t car that was
Title: Re: LED daytime driving lights
Post by: Guy on 08 February 2008, 00:05
look... people have asked why they are used instead of lights and whether they are legal and i have tried to explain the bloody difference - that is all

i like the way they look and in principle I agree with the idea of DRL's because I am fcuked off with people pulling out in front of me and saying they 'didn't see me'

And they are mandatory in stupid countries. lol. With sprawling moutains, forests, etc, not a bustilin country like england. If they were needed, all cars would have them.

and it is because this country is 'bustilin' and I drive to work on country lanes that I want them

Post by: kells on 08 February 2008, 00:08
Guy, you want them...you get them

your car dude, your choice you dont need to explain your reasons, we all have our opinions and luckily they are all different, if not we would all be driving identical cars etc
