no special tools needed fella. just the coil spring compressors. socket set and some spanners does the job

If its anything like every car i have ever done suspession on (allot) you will need an air gun to zip the top nuts off else the strut just spins!  You might be lucky.

Heard you need a "special tool" to get it loose, anyone know what its called? suspension was only changed about a year and a half ago so shouldn't be any ceased/difficult nuts.

1 1/2 hours! No chance - even with a ramp. Take you time and reckon on best part of 10 hours if you use a jack and do all 4.  Bet your bottom dollar you come against a stiff nut etc. Spring compressors cost me a tenner from motor factors. Replace all top mounts and bottom bushes. The bottom bushes usually come with the strut. Personally I just cleaned up the springs and replaced the struts with Bose gas shocks - £27 each.

Flats on the strut thread at the top end meant I did not require a special tool for the rear, but the front is a different matter. Again motor factor should supply. Hayes manual shows how to make one yourself - not difficult.

Agreed that camber and tracking to be checked afterwards, but drive it a while first to let it bed in.

I done mine in about 3/4 hours and in regards to getting the top nut of while the strut is spinning  imade a bodged up tool myself with many other tools hahaha  but either way, i am thinking of putting my oem springs back on cos the ride is sh!t (vw struts and aftermarket springs)
