Hiya, Iv noticed that recently i dont get that much pull in 2nd gear. I dont rag may car about but its nice to feel the odd bit of turbo power to cheer me up. I just dont seem to get it much from 2nd gear, 3rd etc is fine.
I started shy away from takin on boy racers because im scared of losin now.

Might do it all the time, you prob notice more in second?? Split pipe? You got it checked with vag com or faut code reader?
-
nay not done owt like that. Its recently had a big service £150+. Would they not have noticed it then or is it not summat that gets checked in a service.
If its easy to check the pipes for functionality i'll do that tomoz (im presumin u mean the pipes that come from both sides of the turbo) Is it just a matter of inspecting them or is there a better way?
-
ahh something that i forgot to mention. I have a turbo boost gauge (had it fitted at awesome gti) so im presumin its been fitted right.
If the psi on the guage looks right (peakin at 8psi) then does that rule out a split in the hose?

Yeah sounds ok. I would just have a look and see if anything looks split ect. Then get it checked with a fault code reader and see if shes giving you any codes.

cheers mate. I guess the other thing i could do is track down another car like mine for sale in a garage and have a test drive to see if it feels the same as mine. It could just be me gettin too used to my car. i used to have a 1.3 8valve fiesta so when i 1st got my golf i was amazed by how much quicker it felt.

I was thinking this yeah very easy to get used to it

Maybe what you need is a remap sir
-
I've noticed that third feels a lot stronger than second with mine too...... unless you slowly(ish!) build up to about 2.5k revs in second, let her sit for a couple of seconds at this rpm then bury the pedal into the carpet......great fun
But normal driving wise it does feel as if the torque kicks in earlier in third than second.

If I could get mine to boost then id let you know what mine was like!
-
You said you recently had a service, why not take the car back and let them check it out for you. I would think that they would check it out without costing you anything.
-
i suppose its worth a go at askin the garage to have a quick look at it, they can only say no. The thing is im pretty skint at the mo, im self employed n works gone kinda tits up.
I was seriously considerin treatin myself to a remap before the work situation like.
Iv just had sever laps around the block and a rumage under the bonnet. 1st few laps round i did with my car is it was, (i have a forge splitter dv and had it more or less fully wound out so it made that tshhhhh noise). The psi was peakin at 6-6 1/2 mostly, sometimes 7 when i planted my foot on the floor in 2. It just feels like in the high revs in 2nd (like when ur headin towards 60mph) its a bit flat. In 3rd gear i would plant my foot and it would go to 7 psi all the time.
I parked her on the drive and after lettin her cool down turned the ignition off n lifted the bonnet again. I decided to wind the splitter dv back in so that it was fully recirculatin and wouldnt make any noise. I noticed that there are a few rubber tubes knockin about round there which only appeared there after i had the boost gague fitted. One of them is touchin the dump valve and has evidence of heat damage. Not much, but there is a smooth indentation on it where its been restin on the dump valve.
had a 2nd spin round the block. It just felt more responsive from the get go. The psi in 2nd gear was up at 7 consistantly now. Im not 100% happy tho cos im sure that when 1st had the boost gague fitted it was gettin almost 8 (cant remember wot gear tho). Ah well im just gonna claim a minor victory and try to forget about it so it wont worry me. Im sure in have o.c.d. or some kind of autism....
-
ok im not happy, just been on google searchin for boost psi stats for the standard 1.8t golf (i told u i had OCD):
Boost Level 0.6 bar / 8.7 psi
can someone else with a standard 1.8t and a gague please tell me what they get.
btw mine is a 1999 V reg 1.8t
