Hi there,
I am almost 17 and have got myself a 1.6 8v golf driver.
Ive been working on it for about 4 months and have started to think about insurance.
Im guessing its not going to be cheap but maybe you guys could help me.
Im only after 3rd party fire and theft.
Please could you give me some advice.
Cheers
Liam

Hi mate,
Im 17 and passed my test 2 months ago. I have a 1.6 driver aswell with no mods (yet lol) and the insurance was £1857 for fully comp. 3rd party fire and theft was only £100 cheaper and so i went with fully comp.
That was the best deal I managed to find and i tried several places, most of which were over £2300.
Got mine from www.lv.com (http://www.lv.com). Just look around on confused.com and alternates. Different places vary from person to person so whats good for me might not for your etc...
Hope that helps a bit mate.

damn thats good! lol
 mines quicker than all my mates cars  (except mikester off here who has a golf gti lol) and ive got the bragging rights of owning a 1.6 lol Love mine, would only change it for a newer VW (golf or polo) with power steering! Thats the only thing that i miss from other cars ive driven (my driving instructors + my mums lol)

Welcome.
Good job, the Mk2 is a great first car.
Mine was a mk2 GL, 1.8 litre with 90bhp.
It was certainly more fun to drive than various company cars (mondeos and vectras) I drove at the time.
The lack of power steering only really becomes noticeable when trying to park, but you build up your arms after a while.
Stick with the Mk2 Driver, maybe mod a little, then get a GTI and transfer your mods to it.
